Tactical RPG Those Who Rule just got a major boost with Patch v1.2.4, delivering long-awaited Steam Deck Verified status and a fresh batch of 30 Steam achievements to sink your teeth into.

Those Who Rule Combat System

Valve has officially greenlit Those Who Rule as fully compatible on Steam Deck, making it easier than ever to take the game’s brutal turn-based battles on the go. This is a solid milestone for solo developer Eldin Turulja and the growing fanbase supporting the indie strategy hit we praised in our review.

Alongside the Deck support comes a hefty injection of replay value: 30 achievements now track everything from beginner steps to hardcore feats. You’ll earn badges for moments like getting your first unit promotion, executing a brutal 40+ damage strike, or pulling off finesse like defeating enemies with shield bashes or bleed effects. Some achievements go deep—Ranger General, for instance, demands a full campaign clear on Veteran difficulty with Permadeath on.

Twelve of the achievements (marked with an asterisk) are retroactive, meaning if you’ve already completed key milestones, the game will recognize them once you revisit the credits screen.

Here’s a quick glance at a few standout challenges:

  • A Grave Mistake – Defeat all enemies in the prologue.
  • Elkcellent – Wipe out two enemies in a single round while equipped with the Elk Effigy.
  • Skill Issue – Dodge an attack with a 0% hit chance (good luck!).
  • Hero* – One of several mysterious late-game or story-linked achievements.

Bug fixes round out the patch, with updates to the Agile ability and a fix for double-promotion glitches. Torch enemies in Chapter 6 now correctly display info and apply burn effects as intended.

Looking ahead, Turulja teased plans for cloud save support and a Brutal difficulty mode. In a fun community twist, the first player to beat the Brutal patch will get a custom in-game character immortalized in future Brutal runs. Those Who Rule is available on PC via Steam.
