In terms of graphical style, the 2024 strategy RPG Songs of Silence stands among the best. Developed by Chimera Entertainment, the game combines a turn-based strategy for movement and decisions on the world map with a real-time combat system where units automatically clash with enemy forces.
We reviewed it at launch, but the big news is the recent announcement of a new DLC, Lighteaters, which will introduce a wealth of new content to the base game, including an entirely new faction. Let’s take a closer look at the details.
The Lighteaters DLC for Songs of Silence introduces a new faction to Skirmish mode, playable in both single-player and multiplayer. These beings linger between life and death, sustained by the Hymn, with gameplay mechanics built around healing, self-inflicted damage, and resource management.
At the heart of their power is the Nexus Capital, serving as their primary base for unit recruitment and strategic retreats. The Nexus Recall strategy card allows them to teleport back instantly, while the Nexus Gateway building upgrade extends their reach, enabling continued recruitment on the battlefield.
The DLC brings two new hero archetypes, each with three vocations. The Ancient Lighteaters, cursed for defying the Celestial Gods, are trapped between existence and oblivion. Meanwhile, the Gluttons command massive Gestalt hordes, using their sheer presence to dominate the battlefield.
Players can deploy eight new units, including the Gladiator, Gardist, Mowl, Mawling, Lightstarved, Lesser Lighteater, Collector, and Shrieker—each harnessing life-draining and healing abilities to sustain their relentless advance.
Strategic depth expands with five new strategy cards, such as Devour Light and Equivalent Exchange, and eight new battle cards, including Abyssal Maw, Mind Control, and Unholy Intervention. A new unit perk, Collector, generates additional gold or faction income when stationed in key locations.
Multiplayer remains accessible to all—players without the DLC can still face opponents who own it. Songs of Silence is available on PC via Steam, and the Lighteaters DLC will debut on the 20th of February 2025, below an overview of the base game.
