The tactical RPG’s latest devlog also details an ancient elven library, new combat abilities, and unpredictable battlefield surfaces.
Anyone who’s been following my website or my YouTube channel (which is currently on a little break) will already be very familiar with Guild Saga. It’s a tactical RPG with a great story and some absolutely superb pixel art. Today’s dev gives a sneak peek at new content that will be featured in version 1.0. In their latest October devlog, Ocelot Technologies talks about Hero Mode being in the works, as well as the Archives dungeon and some more skills. All of this as they continue their work towards the 1.0 release.

Hero Mode is Tactician difficulty with a single save and selected encounters tweaked. You’re going to have to commit to your decisions and preparation and use of consumables will be even more important. A defeat ends the Hero Mode attempt (though the adventure can of course continue on Tactician difficulty) which gives you a route to finish the story even if your challenge run has gone wrong.
Exploration will continue via the Archives (a massive dungeon located in the heart of an ancient elven library) which had its entrance in Arborea in version 0.8. The shelves of the Archives contain information on quests and the wider story, including the activities of the chronomancer Thevyre. Getting through the Archives will involve combat against new enemy types, lore-based quizzes, a maze, and other puzzles. It appears that you’ll need a fairly competent combat party to get through the library.

The new abilities give you a number of different ways to go about an encounter. Rogues get Wraith which gives you three turns of invisibility and allows you to move freely. Pyromancers can use Chainfire Blast to bounce a fireball between up to five enemies. Ocelot has the full release coming with over 200 skills.
Engineers can also introduce Wildcard surfaces to the battlefield. These have a very distinct look but will randomly take on the effect of one of the existing surfaces. Wildcard Attack does damage to an enemy and places a Wildcard underneath them. Wash The Deck will convert all surfaces in its range into Wildcards.

For those unfamiliar with Guild Saga, the game is isometric, turn-based combat with a lot of party customization and exploration. You can mix and match abilities from different disciplines, tweak your party’s gear and skills and go on personal quests and relationship quests between fights. Crafting is all about equipment, food and potions so you’ve got a lot of preparation to do beyond just deciding which abilities you want to take into battle.
Guild Saga: Vanished Worlds is out on PC via Steam Early Access, with a free demo and a 20% off currently in place until 13th November. The full release is currently targeted for Q2 2027 and the features shown in this devlog are just a taste of what’s in development. Below i share the devlog video.
