One of the older chapters in the Wizardry series is getting another chance on modern hardware. Drecom has announced that the Super Famicom version of Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge will be released on Steam in 2027, with D4Enterprise handling development of the port. The announcement is part of the celebrations surrounding the 45th anniversary of the long-running RPG series.
There is an important distinction here: Wizardry 6 is already available on Steam. That release is based on the original computer game developed by Sir-Tech, while the newly announced version brings back the Super Famicom adaptation released in Japan in 1995.
It will therefore appear as a separate title under the name Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge (SFC Version).
The core experience remains firmly rooted in old-school dungeon crawling. Players assemble a party and explore environments from a first-person perspective, moving through dungeons while fighting enemies through turn-based command battles.
The Super Famicom version introduced six additional races and six classes, alongside a redesigned spell system, character skills, animated monsters, expanded character creation, and outdoor environments mixed with the traditional dungeon areas.
The story revolves around the Cosmic Forge, a magical pen capable of turning whatever is written with it into reality. The player’s party enters an abandoned castle in search of the artifact, with exploration, party development, combat, and character customization forming the backbone of the adventure.
One significant detail for Western players, at least for now. The current Steam listing supports Japanese only, with English explicitly marked as unsupported. Drecom says it will share more information about the release later, so it remains to be seen whether it will add more languages before launch.
Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge (SFC Version) is currently scheduled for 2027 on PC via Steam. A more precise release date has not yet been announced.
