If you love Wartales, the medieval open-world tactical RPG, have plenty to celebrate as the game reaches a significant milestone: over 1 million copies sold on Steam. Developer Shiro Games has marked the occasion with the announcement of The Skelmar Invasion, the game’s bloodiest and most ambitious DLC yet, set to release on December 10, 2024. This major update will also be accompanied by a free update for the base game, introducing long-requested features and gameplay mechanics.
A New Battlefield: Ormance
The Skelmar Invasion takes players to Ormance, a new war-ravaged region under the control of the ruthless Skelmar forces. Players will face the challenge of liberating heavily fortified baronies and rebuilding settlements devastated by years of raids and conflict. Along the way, they’ll have the opportunity to recruit local rebels, bolstering their warband with skilled fighters eager to take back their homeland.
The DLC emphasizes large-scale, strategic gameplay, including intense siege battles against well-guarded strongholds. These encounters promise to push players’ tactical skills to their limits as they face off against new crossbow-wielding enemies, who will appear across all factions as part of the concurrent free update.
A Milestone Celebration
Quentin Lapeyre, Game Director at Shiro Games, expressed gratitude and excitement over the game’s milestone achievement. “It’s a celebratory time for Wartales, celebrating more than 1 million sales on Steam alone,” Lapeyre said. “The Skelmar Invasion offers thrilling new experiences, and it was our chance to give mercenaries the highly requested siege battles alongside many more long-awaited requests.”
Pricing and Launch Details
The Skelmar Invasion DLC will be available on PC via Steam and GOG for $19.99/€19.99/£16.99, with a 10% launch discount during the first two weeks. For newcomers, Shiro Games is offering a discounted bundle, which includes the base game and the new DLC for $33.50.
The free update accompanying the DLC will enhance the base game experience with new features and mechanics inspired by community feedback, ensuring that all players—whether they purchase the expansion or not—will benefit from the celebration.
