The idea of exploring space aboard your own spaceship—managing its various departments, issuing orders, and encountering unknown alien races—has always fascinated me. And I’m clearly not the only one, given the massive success of FTL some time ago. Over the years, several games have attempted to recapture the mechanics of Subset Games’ classic, the same studio behind another genre-defining tactical title, Into the Breach.
Speaking of space, exploration, and tactical battles against enemy ships, a new indie game has just been announced by Boby Studios. It’s called Wild Space and it’s a turn-based strategy game that blends luck and tactical decision-making. Players take command of a spaceship, navigating a branching path toward an ultimate showdown while managing upgrades and using dice rolls to shape their strategies. Though luck determines the numbers, success hinges on how players utilize their rolls to outmaneuver opponents.
With ship customization at its core, Wild Space allows players to upgrade systems before setting off on their journey. Along the way, decisions must be made at various upgrade stations. The game’s roguelite elements promise high replayability, as each playthrough offers a new route and different challenges. Wild Space has no release date yet, below some screens and overview.
