RetroReactor’s new PC roguelite combines tactical racing, vehicle combat, team management, and a dynamic corporate economy.

Independent developer RetroReactor has announced Rebels of the Solar Speedway, a turn-based combat racing roguelite scheduled to launch on PC via Steam in 2027. Closed beta testing is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with registrations available through the developer’s Discord server.

Racer Rebels of the Solar Speedway

Set across a corporate-controlled solar system, the game places players in command of a racing team competing in heavily armed events. Instead of directly driving a single vehicle, players oversee multiple pilots from a complete view of the track, planning their movements and attacks before each round is resolved.

Turn-Based Racing and Vehicle Combat

Races are divided into an Action Phase and a Resolution Phase. During the first stage, players decide where each car will move, which onboard systems to activate, and whether to attack an opponent.

Positioning affects both racing and combat. Advancing toward the front can improve a vehicle’s standing but may place it within range of enemy weapons. Players must also consider attack patterns, weapon strength, secondary effects, and the planned movements of rival teams.

Once every action has been selected, the Resolution Phase processes attacks from last place to first. This order gives trailing vehicles an opportunity to influence the track before the leading racers complete their actions, making current placement an important tactical factor.

A Racing Championship Controlled by Corporations

The story takes place after humanity has expanded throughout the solar system. Earth is governed by the Church of the Holy Circuit, while Ares Defense, Helios Genera, and Ceres Sustenance control much of the economy and workforce.

Players compete on behalf of the Outer Rim Independence Collective, a resistance movement seeking to undermine those organizations. Its campaign focuses on the Battle Races of the Solar Speedway, a popular competition sponsored by the same corporations targeted by the rebellion.

Defeating corporate champions can weaken their influence and help build public support for the resistance. The MegaCorps may also approach the player’s team with offers and assignments, creating opportunities to gain resources while maintaining ties with the rebellion.

A Stock Market Affected by Race Results

Corporate performance is represented through a dynamic stock market. Actions taken during races can change the value of each MegaCorp, including defeating sponsored competitors or using weapons produced by a particular company.

Stocks also function as currency, while item prices fluctuate according to corporate valuations. Players may therefore need to consider the economic consequences of their equipment and combat decisions. Weakening a company can support the rebellion, but it may also reduce the value of shares currently held by the team.

Cars, Weapons, and Team Management

Between races, players manage repairs, ammunition, movement systems, and equipment. The game is planned to include more than 15 cars, each with its own statistics and systems, along with over 30 weapons.

More than 90 modules can be installed to improve weapons or change how they function. These customization options allow vehicles to be adapted for different roles, including direct attacks, positional control, or supporting other members of the team.

The campaign will feature more than 18 tracks divided across three cups. Players will travel between events on a Galaxy Map that begins near Earth and leads toward the Solar Speedway, with random encounters appearing throughout each run.

Roguelite Progression

New content becomes available through repeated play, including cars, weapons, opposing teams, and alternative starting squads. RetroReactor currently plans to include more than 10 unlockable player teams and over 30 enemy teams.

Each starting team will provide different conditions and strategic options, while the combination of tracks, events, equipment, and opponents is designed to vary between runs.

Rebels of the Solar Speedway is in development for PC and is expected to launch through Steam in 2027. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
