A tactical combat system, an open world where you can explore both by sailing and on foot across mysterious seas and islands, giant creatures to defeat in order to obtain legendary Elixirs, factions to interact with, and pixel art graphics just the way I like them. This is Mythical Whalers, an RPG developed by Kleen Fleet that looks like it promises incredible depth.
In Mythical Whalers, you will command a diverse and evolving crew drawn from mythical races, each member shaped by the harsh realities of survival on the open seas. The game’s world spans eight distinct biomes, each alive with bizarre creatures, warring factions, and unpredictable challenges. Your journey will require you to hunt monstrous leviathans, harvesting rare resources such as the gem horns of slain whales, which can be used to brew powerful elixirs and grant your crew formidable new abilities.
As you navigate the world, you will engage in trade negotiations, forge alliances, and sometimes clash with rival factions. Your crew’s traits will change over time, influenced by your decisions and the harsh conditions they endure. Recruiting new members, managing your resources wisely, and mastering the art of diplomacy and tactical grid-based combat will be crucial to your survival and success.
Mythical Whalers doesn’t have a release date yet, though it’s expected to launch sometime in 2025 on PC. It remains one of the titles I’m most eagerly awaiting. In the meantime, here are some screenshots, the overview via Steam, and the trailer.
