Rhea of the Remnant RPG

I just learned about Rhea of the Remnant thanks to one of my loyal YouTube channel viewers, who brought this indie project to my attention. We’re talking about a strategy game inspired by Into the Breach, as the developer has openly stated. Now, let me give you some details.

In Rhea of the Remnant, players command only three mechs at a time, while the opposition usually arrives in much greater numbers. The upcoming tactical RPG is the work of South Korean solo developer MushroomShoes and is currently planned for PC through Steam in 2026.

A free demo is available now, offering three playable units and selected missions from the opening chapter.

The story takes place after the collapse of an advanced civilization. A hostile group is attempting to reactivate weapons from that lost age, and six protagonists fight to stop them using mechs that are themselves pieces of forgotten technology.

As happens in Into The Breach, enemy actions are fully predictable, and player commands can be undone at any time. The goal is to test different action sequences until a workable turn takes shape.

Each mech has a movement allowance and a pool of action points used for weapons and skills. Units can act in any order, move before or after attacking, and use hit-and-run tactics to stay outside the next enemy strike. Some defensive actions also consume AP, which creates a meaningful choice between spending everything on offense or preserving resources for the enemy phase.

Friendly fire seems to be part of the gameplay, so line of sight and unit placement could turn a powerful attack into a liability.

The complete roster includes six mechs, though only three can deploy for any battle. Each machine carries a defined role, along with its own strengths and weaknesses. New abilities and equipment upgrades let players reshape those roles over time, while team composition revolves around finding useful combinations between the selected units.

One mech operates as an adaptable rifle unit that can reserve AP for reactive movement and evasion during the enemy phase.

Another specializes in long-range weapons and can spend additional AP on stronger shots. The third fills the tank role with close-range area attacks and a recurring defensive shield. MushroomShoes has also described three additional machines, including a transforming support unit, a mech that controls remote drones, and a trickster based around stealth and decoys.

Inside battle maps, players have to deal with hazards that affect allies and enemies alike. Sandstorms can damage every unit on the field, while artillery fire creates dangerous areas that must be avoided or exploited.

Overview

The developer cited Into the Breach as an important influence, with the project aiming for rules that are easy to understand while still supporting deeper tactical planning. Development reportedly began as a personal project during the creator’s military service and continued alongside university studies.

The demo received a substantial update on May 28, 2026. MushroomShoes revised the interface, reorganized the presentation, added unit illustrations to the upgrade menu, and introduced an Easy difficulty setting.

Ally and enemy abilities were also rebalanced, while the game’s numerical values were simplified to make tactical information easier to read. Controller support and an early section of the story are planned for a later demo update.

An exact launch date has not been announced beyond the broader 2026 window. For now, the free demo offers a clear look at the game’s main loop.
