Sigils of Nightfall Is a Roguelite Take on First-Person Dungeon Crawling RPGs

First-person dungeon crawlers are among my favorite genres, as I’ve said many times, and today I want to highlight one of the most interesting ones currently in development, one I’d actually included in my list of promising 10 first-person RPGs.

It’s called Sigils of Nightfall, developed by Mörk Borg under the 2 Wedges label, and it brings a compelling twist to the genre by introducing roguelite elements both in structure and gameplay, all wrapped in a striking gothic-rock visual style.

The game throws you into Mountain’s Penance, a living prison where condemned souls rot while cultists chip away at what is left of the world. You play as one of several flawed, tormented characters and fight for survival in turn-based battles that play out from a first-person perspective, mixing card-driven combat with classic dungeon crawling.

Classic dungeon-crawler exploration, but laid out as branching nodes like in a roguelite, with each node representing a room whose contents are completely unknown.

Each encounter is about managing scarce resources and squeezing value out of your deck as you push deeper into this gothic, Mörk Borg–inspired apocalypse, where every new room on the dungeon map can be a blessing, a curse, or the start of a slow death.

Runs are structured as one-shot RPG stories. You build and mutate your deck as you explore, combining cards and character abilities into synergies that can either carry you through the prison or implode in reckless chaos.

Different sigils “break” between runs, reshaping the dungeon layout, events, and enemy mixes, so each attempt forces new decisions about risk and reward.

On top of that, there is a full bestiary and a vault of trinkets to discover, with grotesque cultists, skeletal guards, and other abominations brought to life by artist Thiago Lehmann and an animation team with roots in games like Knights of Pen & Paper and Chroma Squad.

The result leans into grim, high-contrast art and oppressive atmosphere, making Sigils of Nightfall feel like a digital spin on a doomed tabletop campaign where you keep coming back to see how much further you can push your luck before Nightfall finally wins.

Sigils of Nightfall doesn’t have a release date yet, but a solid playable demo is live on PC via Steam. Below, I share with you the demo release trailer.
