The game I’m introducing today is a card game built around deck-building mechanics, but it also weaves in card orientation and area control. In short, it’s not your typical deck-builder. Here are some more details, along with the announcement trailer.
Versalis is an upcoming tactical card game from Aggressive Combustion, set for release in 2026 on PC, and mixes collectible card mechanics with grid-based play, where the objective is to flip and control cards on the board.
Every match begins with drafting. Players select eight champions from different worlds, creating a lineup that defines their tactical options.
Each champion carries unique abilities and interacts differently depending on placement and orientation. Once the draft is complete, these cards are placed onto a shared grid where the real contest begins.
Gameplay is built around movement and orientation. Cards do not simply sit in place, each one can be shifted, rotated, or flipped. Flipping an opponent’s card turns it to your side, altering control of the board and reshaping the flow of play.
Positioning is central: a badly placed champion risks being surrounded and captured, while clever movement can lock out an opponent and secure territory. The match becomes less about raw power and more about who can create favorable lines and protect their champions from reversal.
Defense and counterplay also play a large role. Some moves are designed to hold ground, while others aim to open weak points in the enemy’s formation.
Swapping positions can protect valuable champions or set up a chain of flips that spreads across the board. With eight champions per side, the grid quickly becomes a crowded puzzle where each decision has cascading effects.
Versalis supports both single-player and online multiplayer for up to four participants. While the structure resembles a collectible card game, its focus on drafting a fixed roster and fighting for grid control brings it closer to a hybrid between a tactical board game and a card battler.
