Indie developer MadMage Games has announced Lootdeck, a dark fantasy roguelite deckbuilder that ties its card system directly to the equipment collected during each run. The game is currently in development for PC, with its release date still to be announced.

Lootdeck Roguelite RPG

Lootdeck makes weapons, armor, and artifacts the foundation of the player’s available actions. Every equipped item introduces specific cards to the deck, meaning that replacing a piece of gear can significantly alter both combat options and the overall strategy of a build.

A powerful weapon may provide valuable offensive cards, while armor and artifacts can open different tactical possibilities. Players will consequently need to consider not only an item’s immediate benefits, but also how its cards interact with the rest of their equipment.

Lootdeck Overview

Battles unfold on a tactical grid and draw inspiration from tabletop RPG combat. Positioning, movement, and card effects all play an important role, while individual actions are resolved through dice rolls.

The combination introduces an element of uncertainty without removing the need to plan ahead, particularly when enemies or terrain restrict the available space.

Each expedition takes players deeper into an ever-changing megadungeon affected by an ancient corruption. Runs feature hostile creatures, mysterious rooms, opportunistic merchants, and new equipment to scavenge.

Indie Tactical RPG

Since the loot found along the way determines the cards available in battle, players may need to repeatedly adjust their tactics instead of relying on the same deck throughout an entire run.

Lootdeck is being developed by MadMage Games as a single-player PC game. An official announcement trailer is available below, although the developer has not yet revealed a launch window. The game can now be wishlisted through its Steam page.
