ExeCo’s turn-based survival dungeon crawler pairs a grim rescue mission with dice-based gunfights, limited inventory space, and the temptation to stay out for one more floor.
A rescue mission leads straight to a human meat processing plant in Medium Rare, the turn-based survival dungeon crawler from ExeCo. A free demo is now available on Steam, and the studio’s October 8 announcement sets January 2027 as the release window for the full game. A new trailer accompanies the news.

In a world running out of resources, human beings have become a commercial food source. Your wife has been taken to a processing facility somewhere up a mountain, and her fate remains uncertain.
Reaching it means traveling through territory occupied by cannibals, infected humans, and mutated animals. The facility is also called ExeCo, giving the studio a particularly unpleasant namesake in its own setting.
Getting Home With Your Supplies Is Part of the Strategy
Exploration takes place on a grid-based map, moving between floors while managing the resources you need to keep going. You can extract to a base with what you have collected, or keep searching for a better haul. Returning also supports progression, as recovered parts go toward character and equipment upgrades. That gives you a reason to head home while an expedition is still going well.

Gunfights are turn-based and use a dice-based combat system, with weapon combinations that can help conserve resources.
Inventory management introduces another limit. Everything must fit in a single carrying case, with a spatial packing system that forces decisions about what deserves room and what gets left behind. Finding something useful does not automatically mean bringing it home, especially when space is already committed to other supplies or upgrade parts.
An 80-Minute Demo Ahead of Steam Next Fest
According to ExeCo, an average demo playthrough lasts approximately one hour and 20 minutes. The studio also says Medium Rare will participate in Steam Next Fest from October 19–26, with the demo available ahead of the event.

Medium Rare is targeting January 2027 on PC via Steam. You can try the demo now and wishlist the full game. Below are more details and the trailer.
