Brutal Orchestra

Brutal Orchestra – Review

Damiano Gerli

Dying, what an interesting experience! Well, I suppose none of us really know anything about it, but we sure love to fantasize. What is next, after all is dead and gone? According to Brutal Orchestra, what is next is a full-on roguelite strategy experience of having to track down our killer in order to get revenge. Well, not that we care that much about it, but it’s something to do while waiting for our eternal reward, I guess…

Karawan

Karawan – Review

armies and castles

You watch as your world slowly retreats into the darkness. The trees, the mountains, the villages. You think of all those who followed you to the end and those you've abandoned. Of all the hardship and all the greatness destiny has bestowed upon you. Now, there's nothing left of it - just the stars and the cold. You close your eyes. You return, in your last dreams, to the times when the road lay straight and clear before you. Seems like it was so long ago - yet you can almost see it clearly now. You can see yourself, standing proudly with your arm pointing forward, at the head of your caravan.

Do you remember what it was like being a teen and going on adventures with no care in the world? There were no restraints nor a sense of responsibility; we were free from the constraints of life. It is probably why most RPGs allow us to play as 'the formidable' teenager. They are capable yet free; what better hero to go on an adventure with. Like any good Turn-based RPG, Echo Generation does the same thing and puts players in the shoes of their own teen, who they can slightly make their own.

Jupiter Hell – Review

It is interesting to see games contaminating each other, even though different genres. At times it feels like the equivalent of a cinematic universe, like "what if we get a turn-based RPG but with Doom"? But that was a different game, instead, what about a 90s FPS-like narrative in a turn-based action game with RPG elements? Well, that is what Jupiter Hell is here to provide us. Let us rip and tear through it.

The gaming industry loves buzzwords. From metroidvania to roguelike - these all went from being useful terms by which players could identify their favorite quirks of a genre, to simple marketing slogans. Yet, there are games that deserve their advertising, recreating some exact kind of nostalgic experience in a way that goes beyond just game mechanics. Rift Wizard is one of these. It seeks to entice the traditional roguelike community, not just with gameplay, but with aesthetics, too.

Dust To The End

Dust To The End – Review

Buy low, sell high - the age-old fundamentals of commerce make for an intensely satisfying game experience. Games like Mount and Blade or Battle Brothers put the principles of supply and demand at the forefront of their economic systems. At the end of the day, however, those games center around conquest and combat; making a quick purse of gold by running goods from one town to the next is just another means of getting your troops paid, fed, and equipped.
