Persona 4 Golden review header

Modern Persona games, historically a Sony-exclusive series, are coming to Xbox and PC. Although, it may not be that shocking; SEGA works hard to bring its titles to PC, and Persona 4 Golden is already available on that platform.

However, there are plenty of games to play while you’re waiting for Persona to come to your favorite system. Whether you’re a fan of the series, or just interested in its captivating style – here are Top 5 similar games you can play right now!

5 – Yakuza: Like a Dragon/Lost Judgment

It’s no surprise Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio began adapting Persona’s mechanics as they transitioned to the RPG genre. Unlike the previous title, Yakuza 7 or Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a turn-based JRPG, heavily inspired by Dragon Quest. However, it also includes many elements from the Persona series – such as bonding with teammates. Playing the mini-games with your party members can also be reminiscent of Persona games.

Also, Lost Judgment, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Judge Eyes/Judgment, takes Persona inspiration to another level – by moving a massive segment of the game to high school! It’s so strange yet at the same time fun and memorable.

4 – Sakura Wars

Sakura Wars is an RPG series set in a steampunk version of the Taishō period, where those with magical abilities can control mechs. It’s much like modern Persona – an interesting combination of a turn-based RPG and a dating sim/slice of life. You play a male protagonist, who must interact with and direct a group of all-female fighters. Along the way, you’ll get to know them better and perhaps even date one of them.

3 – The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Of Cold Steel Series

Trails of Cold Steel IV

Trails of Cold Steel is a sequel to the legendary Trail franchise, making great use of Persona-inspired elements. As a military academy student, you can spend time bonding with your peers and create kick-ass battle teams. The game features an amazing turn-based combat system, that makes all your efforts worthwhile. An important difference between Trails of Cold Steel and Persona is that your relationships will continue in other entries.

2 – Tokyo Xanadu

Also by Falcom, Tokyo Xanadu features many Trails of Cold Steel-like elements. However, instead of a fantasy warrior, you are a Japanese high schooler with magical abilities, able to explore fantastical dungeons at night. Of course, when the sun is up, you can do part-time jobs and spend time with your peers and friends.

1 – Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Fire Emblem is a renowned tactical RPG series that focuses a lot on character relations. The latter even play an important role in combat. So, it was to no one’s surprise that they were heavily inspired by Persona; the latest entry features many social/dating sim/chores mechanics. The end result is so great that I would go as far as to say Fire Emblem: Three Houses is the best thing you can get your hands on – if you want to experience a masterful game similar to Persona.

Funnily enough, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, the Musou spin-off, features Persona-like mechanics that weren’t present in Persona 5 Strikers.

So, that’s it for our list of Top 5 Persona-like Games. Hopefully, you’ll find something you like – and that’ll keep you busy while waiting for the series to come to your platform of choice. Thank you for reading!
