Age of Wonders 4 launches the Thrones of Blood ruler pack today alongside the free Gargoyle Update, expanding the strategy game with a full vampire-themed toolkit and a broad quality-of-life pass.

Thrones of Blood introduces Elder Vampires as a new origin with a bespoke skill tree, the ability to embrace recruited heroes as turned vampires who share their earned experience, a Vampire’s Castle that replaces the Wizard’s Tower, three new Tomes focused on blood and torment, and fresh realm content set in the Sunless Lands with Blood Glass as a new magical material.
The pack also adds narrative pieces, including Lost Souls quest chains and a new story realm, plus extras such as music tracks, premade rulers, an interface skin, banner emblems, and new realm templates.

The Gargoyle Update arrives for all players at no cost. It overhauls onboarding with extended tutorials across realm and faction creation, replaces brief “advices” with fuller tutorials, updates legacy tutorials with new voice-overs, and revises tooltips for clarity.
It also expands the Item Forge with new infusions, adjusts the Dark Culture with Ruling Cults that tie more tightly into hero systems, and folds in additional quality-of-life changes and new Pantheon rewards. Full patch notes are available via Paradox’s forum post.
Paradox has lined up a few timed beats around the launch. A Steam free weekend runs from Thursday, November 13 at 19:00 CET through Monday, November 17 at 19:00 CET, giving newcomers a chance to try the game and the update.

The studio is also making Aric Rex—the Tigran ruler previously offered as a pre-order bonus—free to claim on Steam after 18:00 CET today. A new Collector’s Bundle that collects all content up to, but not including, Expansion Pass 3 is slated to go live at 18:00 CET.
Community extras round out the rollout: a short “What Kind of Ruler Are You?” quiz offers wallpapers, a 50% base-game discount, and a chance to win a Watcher plushie, and the team plans a post-release developer stream to gather feedback.
For full feature lists and timing, see the official announcement and the Steam community post.
