Beaten Path Announced

The Kickstarter-backed RPG combines grid-based combat, dual-class character building, and a fully explorable overworld.

Publisher Wales Interactive has partnered with Peacebreak Studio to release Beaten Path in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. An exact launch date has not yet been announced. I talked about it a while back and even added it to my list of most anticipated tactical games, but it’s been quite some time since we’ve gotten any fresh updates.

Beaten Path Overview

Inspired by tactical RPGs such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem, Beaten Path follows Panna, a young woman searching for answers about her missing memories. Her journey gradually draws her into a larger mystery involving forgotten wars, fallen gods, ancient machines, and a cycle of events that appears destined to repeat itself.

Combat unfolds on grid-based battlefields with elevation and elemental weaknesses. Each unit uses action points for movement and abilities; flanking enemies can trigger coordinated Sync attacks, while exploiting weaknesses can Break opponents, leaving them open to further punishment.

Party customization will play an equally important role. The game is expected to include more than 25 recruitable characters, over 250 abilities, and upwards of 100 weapons spread across ten weapon types.

Its dual-job system lets characters combine two different roles, opening the door to specialized builds and unusual skill combinations. Equipment, traits, resistances, vulnerabilities, and unlockable outfits will provide additional ways to shape each party member.

Outside battle, Beaten Path lets players explore a fully navigable 3D world filled with optional areas, hidden lore, narrative encounters, and changing weather. Different regions can be crossed on foot, horseback, or by ship, while the Haven serves as the party’s main hub, bringing together recruited allies, shops, conversations, and upgrades.

The project reached its Kickstarter funding target within six days and has now been in development for almost five years. Its partnership with Wales Interactive will help bring the tactical RPG to both PC and consoles when it launches sometime in 2027.
