I just received an email from Snapshot Games—the developers of Phoenix Point, led by Julian Gollop, the creator of original X-COM—about a newly announced tactical RPG that looks seriously promising.
It’s a digital adaptation of the acclaimed board game Frosthaven, created by Isaac Childres. Developed as a spiritual successor to Gloomhaven, Frosthaven reimagines the original’s deep tactical gameplay as a full-fledged video game RPG, offering both single-player and online co-op multiplayer modes.

Veterans of Gloomhaven and Frosthaven will find familiar mechanics, while newcomers are welcomed with scalable difficulty settings and streamlined quality-of-life features. A fresh roster of character classes—each with distinct abilities and synergies—encourages players to craft well-balanced parties and make every action count in a campaign that emphasizes resource management, calculated risk, and rewarding progression across a hostile northern frontier.
From the start, you can choose from six distinct character classes: Banner Spear, Boneshaper, Drifter, Geminate, Blinkblade, and Deathwalker. Each class is rich in unique abilities and playstyles, offering a wide range of combinations. As you progress through the campaign, additional character classes will unlock, allowing you to refine your party composition and discover new synergies.

Beyond combat, you are also tasked with building and managing your outpost. As you upgrade structures and unlock new mechanics, you enhance your capabilities and deepen your engagement with the game’s evolving systems. This progression ties directly into a richly layered narrative campaign, which will eventually encompass over 130 quests.
Snapshot Games invites players to sign up now for a limited-access closed beta launching on March 27. The early access release date is yet to be announced below the announcement trailer.
