Artefacts Studio and New Tales bring the Descent universe to videogames with a cooperative tactical RPG set before Legends of the Dark.
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent is out now on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Artefacts Studio and published by New Tales, it is the first videogame based on Fantasy Flight Games’ Descent universe, a setting many tabletop players already know well.

The game arrives after a few months of public demos and player feedback. Its first demo, released last February, let players explore the Crypts of Aerendor in single-player mode. Since then, the Steam demo has reached more than 87% positive reviews, with players responding well to its tactical combat, cooperative structure, and faithful use of the Descent setting.
The full version opens up the complete adventure. Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent takes place one year before Descent: Legends of the Dark and follows a four-chapter campaign built around 20 dungeons. Each dungeon brings different layouts, enemies, and environments, with dynamic dialogue that changes depending on the heroes in the party.

There are eight playable heroes at launch, each built around a clear role, personal story, and combat style.
Boss encounters and familiar creatures from Terrinoth also play a major role. These battles ask players to manage terrain, special abilities, and party coordination, especially in co-op. The game supports solo play and online multiplayer for up to four players, with the option to join a session already in progress.
Artefacts Studio already has experience with party-based tactical fantasy thanks to The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos.

With Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent, the challenge was different. The studio had to adapt a known board game world without turning it into a simple copy of the tabletop experience.
“As longtime fans ourselves, it was a huge challenge to adapt the license in a way that stayed true to the essence of Terrinoth while still offering our own interpretation of it,” said Bruno Chabanel, CEO of Artefacts Studio. “We wanted to capture the unique atmosphere and accessibility of Descent’s universe, and naturally translate them into a true video game experience without ever losing the soul of the original board game.”

New Tales CEO Cédric Maréchal said the demo helped confirm the interest around the project. “The feedback we received on the demo confirmed the game’s potential and players’ attachment to the Descent universe,” he said. “Today, we are very happy to finally be able to deliver the full experience and allow players to discover this new way of exploring Terrinoth, either alone or with friends.”
For Asmodee and Fantasy Flight Games, the release also marks an important step for the Descent IP. Despite the long history of Terrinoth in tabletop gaming, this is the first time the universe has been adapted into a full tactical RPG videogame.
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent is available now on PC via Steam, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S for $34.99 and €34.99. A new launch trailer is also available, showing the heroes, dungeons, combat system, and the fantasy world players can now explore alone or with a full party.
