It’s been a long time since a Humble Bundle has really grabbed us turn based lovers. This morning, while browsing the site, I came across the Tactical Mindset Bundle, and it definitely looks like something we’d want to check out. That’s at least what I think, and I’m now going to go into a bit more detail. This bundle is a collection of ten games spanning the tactical RPG genre. The full bundle is $18, with $6 and $12 options available for those who simply want to be sensible.

Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent is the leader in the $18 tier, taking the Descent universe into a tactical RPG which can be played solo or in online co-op. The campaign is a completely original story set prior to Descent: Legends of the Dark and features eight different adventurers to choose from. Combat takes into account positioning, elevation and line of sight. Coordinating your characters also enables access to powerful Synergy attacks and the individual missions are designed to be completed in a single evening.
One More Gate: A Wakfu Legend joins it at the top tier, shifting the focus from battlefield formations to card combinations. This roguelite deck builder sees you following Oropo through procedurally generated locations in the World of Twelve, with each run shaped by the various routes you take, the encounters you have, and the upgrades you make. There are around 100 cards to choose from to build your deck, and the flow of Wakfu’s energy is another factor to take into account during combat.

The $12 tier is obviously of relevance to anyone looking at party-based tactical RPGs. Lost Eidolons has you as the captain of Eden, a mercenary who’s got himself drawn into a rebellion against an empire. Battles are grid-based, with your character classes, equipment, and magic all having an effect on how your army performs in each fight. Between fights you go back to camp to recruit more allies, build up your relationships and prepare your troops. It’s a very sensible entry point for anyone wanting a narrative campaign as well as squad management.
Sharing that tier is The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos – Deluxe Edition. Another fantasy tactical RPG with a party of adventurers who are absolutely rife with bickering and general incompetence.
The comic tone runs through the turn-based battles with the Deluxe Edition contains the base game, the soundtrack and the Goodies Pack. The contents of this package should not be confused with a package that contains all the story expansions.

Space Prison is in quite a different league in terms of the environment it presents. To survive in the orbital prison, you have to build up relationships with the inmates, join a gang, make your own contraband, and win your fair share of tactical brawls. You can recruit other prisoners and space rats into your squad, improve your cell and work towards escape. Even if you die the game doesn’t end there as your mind can be transferred into another body. The prison administration has apparently closed that particular route.
Completing the middle tier is The Land Beneath Us, a turn-based roguelite dungeon crawler set in Annwn. The encounters are short and focus on weapon selection and the various movement combos you can set up to trigger abilities. You can collect souls, which you can then use to improve your character between runs, providing another route for those who prefer to go down the repeated run route as opposed to the bigger party-based campaigns.

There’s variety in the $6 tier as well. Ouroboros King is chess with a roguelike progression. Planetiles has you building up habitats on planets and dealing with all the natural disasters that go with that.
Break the Loop has you assemble four heroes and then pick events along a timeline as you get ready to stop an apocalypse. Vandals turns graffiti into a series of turn-based stealth puzzles where you’re sent around police patrols to get to walls that are waiting for your graffiti. Each higher tier includes everything from the tiers below it.
I show you the complete humble breakdown, with prices in US dollars:
| Minimum payment | Total games | Games added at this tier |
|---|---|---|
| $6 | 4 | The Ouroboros King; Planetiles; Break the Loop; Vandals |
| $12 | 8 | Lost Eidolons; The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos – Deluxe Edition; Space Prison; The Land Beneath Us |
| $18 | 10 | Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent; One More Gate: A Wakfu Legend |
