Players who requested access on Steam will be able to try the English-only playtest build starting at 12 PM EDT.
This is a game I introduced not long ago on TBL, and now I’m glad to share that Apprentice of Darkness is preparing to open its Public Playtest on Steam, with the build planned to go live on May 29.

Players who have requested access through Steam should be able to download the game once the playtest opens, assuming the rollout goes as planned.
Apprentice of Darkness is a dark fantasy turn-based roguelike where players take the role of a dark magician rather than the usual world-saving hero. The game has players gather a party of evil creatures, fight tactical turn-based battles, sacrifice enemies to Evil Gods, gain new powers, and upgrade the Tower of Darkness to spread corruption across the continent.
Its tone leans into dark humor, with the whole setup built around commanding the “evil” side of a fantasy conflict.

The announcement marks an important step for the solo-developed project, which has been in development through a long cycle of testing, balancing, bug fixing, and general refinement. The developer noted that the game has been built alongside a full-time job, making this public test a meaningful milestone after a long period of private work.
During the Public Playtest, Apprentice of Darkness will support English only. Additional languages are planned for the full version of the game, so this early build is mainly aimed at gathering player feedback, testing the current version, and letting more people experience the world before launch.
The developer also thanked players who wishlisted the game, shared its trailer, followed development, or simply checked out the project. For those ready to enter the Tower of Darkness, the Public Playtest begins May 29 through Steam.
