The tactical RPG saga continues with a first look at the series’ third chapter.
Lately, TBL’s pages have been filling up with a ton of new SRPG announcements, and of course, I’m already working on an article that rounds them all up, so if you missed any, you can get back up to speed.
Another title announced just a few hours ago, joining the strategy RPG wave, is Grey Heritage: Counter Gambit, though for now, it’s only been shown through a video highlighting the game’s current progress.
The announcement arrived with a new progress video, giving players an early look at the third entry in a saga that has quietly been building its own timeline across Grey Heritage: Faded Vision and Grey Heritage: Noble Duty.
Counter Gambit is not being presented as a detached sequel. It is the third chapter in the Grey Heritage story, which means the events of the previous games still matter. The series has so far focused on war, loyalty, rebellion, and the kind of personal choices that sit behind larger political conflicts.
Around that, BTrain Studio has built a familiar tactical RPG structure, with grid-based battles, army management, recruitable units, and JRPG-style progression.
Grey Heritage: Faded Vision, released in 2022, introduced players to Leon Beaumont, the exiled prince of Astrea, as he leads a rebellion against the king who betrayed him.
Its campaign follows a classic turn-based tactics setup, where positioning, unit growth, inventory choices, and chapter-by-chapter combat all feed into the larger story of revolt and hidden truths. It is the kind of game built for players who like watching an army take shape over time, one battle and one hard decision at a time.
Grey Heritage: Noble Duty followed in 2025 and moved the story backward. It explored the roots of the conflict through Jaden, a character traveling across the land while learning what it means to serve a country.
That prequel role gives Noble Duty extra weight now, since its story helps explain the war that later defines Faded Vision. For anyone planning to follow Counter Gambit, both games look like important pieces of the same board.
BTrain Studio has not shared a release date for Grey Heritage: Counter Gambit yet and even a Steam page. For now, the new video is mainly a development update and a first signal that the next chapter is taking shape.
Players who want to prepare for Grey Heritage: Counter Gambit can start with Grey Heritage: Faded Vision and Grey Heritage: Noble Duty on Steam. BTrain Studio is also inviting fans to watch the new progress video and share their thoughts as work on the third chapter continues.
