Most Anticipated JRPG SacriFire Is Delayed Beyond Q1

Pixelated Milk has confirmed that SacriFire will no longer launch on PC in Q1, pushing the JRPG-inspired game beyond its previously planned window as the studio continues development and prepares to reveal a new target date by the end of May.

The team said work on the game is still moving forward, but at a slower pace than originally expected, and it no longer feels right to commit to a release date before the project is in a better position.

The delay comes down to two main factors. The first is the growing scale of the game itself. According to the studio, SacriFire has become a more ambitious and higher-quality project than it was originally planned to be, which has made scheduling harder and pushed the team away from the timeline it had in mind last year.

The second factor is the long search for a partner that could support a broader launch strategy, one built not just around a PC release, but around a simultaneous rollout for players across multiple platforms.

SacriFire Exploration

Pixelated Milk said it has now found the partner it was looking for after spending the past 18 months speaking with a large number of potential collaborators. The studio claims it was approached by more than 100 possible partners and actively pursued 57 of those conversations, including talks with publishers, platform holders, agencies, intermediaries, funds, start ups, and developers that had moved into publishing.

The goal was not simply to find outside support, but to find a group that could help build the game into something with long-term potential.

The game has been funded through a mix of backer support, private investment, and European and local grants, and Pixelated Milk now seems to be positioning it as a much larger launch than originally expected. The studio did not name the new partner yet, but said more details about the collaboration and what it means for the game will be shared in the coming weeks.

One of the clearest signs of that broader plan is the renewed focus on a platform wide launch. Pixelated Milk said the current goal is to let players enter Erebus regardless of platform, which strongly suggests that the team is now aiming for a coordinated PC and console release and that kind of release usually requires more production planning, more testing, and stronger publishing support, so it makes sense that the original launch target is no longer realistic.

The studio also shared an update on the game’s wishlist performance, and the numbers appear strong. Pixelated Milk said its original goal was to reach 100,000 wishlists by launch through organic growth driven by social media, digital events, and media coverage. SacriFire is now sitting at nearly double that number, which puts it close to 200,000 wishlists.

That does not change the need for more development time, but it does show that interest in the project has continued to grow even as the release window slips.

Sacrifire New Gameplay Sequence

There is another delay attached to this update as well. The SacriFire playtest, which had originally been planned for the beginning of the year, has also been pushed back. Pixelated Milk said the extra time will allow the team to offer a better version of the game, one that sits closer to the final release than the build it had planned to show months ago. A new date for the playtest will be announced later.

To keep the community updated during this stretch, the studio is also bringing back its Day with SacriFire series, which will once again give fans a closer look at daily development. That should help fill the gap while the team prepares its next wave of announcements, especially since Pixelated Milk says more news is coming soon.

SacriFire is delayed, the Q1 PC launch via Steam is off the table, and the team expects to confirm a new goal date by the end of May 2026.

It is a disappointing update for anyone like me who was waiting on the game, but it also sounds like the project is entering a new phase, one shaped by a bigger scope, stronger commercial backing, and a more ambitious launch plan than SacriFire had when its earlier window was announced.
