Everything Turn-Based Released This Week

The weekend is finally here, and it’s time to check out the latest releases in terms of RPGs and Strategy Games with turn-based mechanics—who knows, you might find something perfect to dive into over the next few days or maybe even longer. Here are six titles I’ve curated that I believe are worth considering. For each of them, you’ll find the trailer linked from my brand-new YouTube channel (which I invite you to subscribe to).

This week brings two intriguing JRPGs to the spotlight. First up is Keylocker, a cyberpunk adventure set in a futuristic world where music has been banned. It’s up to you to lead a revolution with your guitar and musical notes as your weapons. If you’re a fan of rhythm-infused combat and dystopian narratives, this one might strike the right chord.

The combat system in Keylocker is all about timing—nailing your attacks at the right moment and trying to mitigate incoming damage with precision. If you enjoy games where reaction time plays a crucial role, this might pique your interest. Developed by Moonana, a studio known for its lineup of highly original titles, Keylocker has a lot of promise.

Another JRPG hitting the scene this week is Cricket: Jae’s Really Peculiar Games. At first glance, it’s hard not to draw comparisons to Earthbound. The quirky vibe, offbeat charm, and unique presentation definitely bring that classic to mind. This hand-animated JRPG tells the story of Jae, who, after suffering a tragic loss, sets out on a journey to the mythical land of Yimmelia on the moon in an attempt to change the past.

The game blends humor and emotion, featuring dynamic exploration without random encounters, and interactive NPC conversations that affect the events. Combat involves timed hits, teamwork, and combo attacks with six playable characters.

Let’s change to something tactical with Project: AHNO’s Ark. A tactical RPG with Roguelite elements set in a post-apocalyptic world. You take on the role of a tribe leader in a deadly game orchestrated by a self-proclaimed goddess, Yarno. The goal is to protect your tribe, strategically encircle enemies, and uncover the truth behind this dangerous contest.

The gameplay combines tactical board game mechanics, where you surround and eliminate enemies, with random events that affect each run. It features single-player action, full controller support, and 31 Steam achievements.

Whether you own a VR headset or not, NEON Squad Tactics is worth considering. It is a turn-based VR strategy game in which you control a team of cybernetic heroes, the NEON Squad, and complete missions for powerful corporations. The game combines tactical depth with immersive VR mechanics, using a holographic table to manage and move your squad.

Key features include diverse characters with unique abilities, a retro 90s aesthetic, and a synthwave soundtrack. It supports both single-player and multiplayer co-op.

Legend of the Wargod is a dark fantasy, turn-based RPG in Early Access that follows the protagonist, Zieg, as he seeks to recover his stolen voice in a world filled with ancient rituals and constant warfare.

The game features strategic, turn-based combat with multiple character classes and magic schools, emphasizing party management and customization. Currently, players can explore the prologue and two chapters, with more content planned. The game is inspired by classic JRPGs, blending a deep narrative with complex combat.

Before wrapping up, I want to highlight an exciting playtest phase that just opened yesterday for a roguelite I’ve mentioned in the past. It’s called Dead Weight, a tactical RPG where you lead a crew of sky pirates, raiding islands and enemy ships.

The game boasts impressive pixel art, and the combat system feels more like a puzzle—playing smart with the grid-based map elements is crucial. With a release scheduled for Q1 2025, now’s a great chance to dive into the playtest and get a sense of what the final product will offer.

That’s all the major video game releases for this week, but brace yourself for next week—it’s packed with amazing releases. Have a great weekend, ciao.
