Owlcat Games unveiled three new trailers at the OTK Games Expo, showcasing a diverse lineup of indie gems where they work mainly as a publisher, and I thought they were worth mentioning.
First up is the deeply narrative-driven adventure, Rue Valley. Reminiscent of the psychological depth and nuanced storytelling of Disco Elysium, Rue Valley centers on one man’s journey to break free from a mysterious, recurring time loop. Each day becomes an emotional labyrinth as players navigate the protagonist’s internal battles and external interactions.
Characters encountered along the way promise intriguing dialogues, their complexities unraveling uniquely depending on the protagonist’s mindset, shaped dynamically through memory-driven narrative graphs. Quirky, humorous dialogues and personality shifts triggered by status effects like intoxication or anxiety add depth to every interaction. Rue Valley’s free demo is available now on Steam.
Next, Shadow of the Road, a turn-based tactical RPG set in an alternate steampunk-infused 19th-century Japan amidst the turmoil of the Boshin War. In the game players will command a diverse group of adventurers, each decision influencing the balance of power between the Shogunate and Imperial forces. Rich storytelling woven with traditional Japanese mythology and innovative steampunk elements. The Open Alpha is live now through Steam Playtest; here you can find my preview for the game, and below is the new trailer.
Lastly, a title not strictly related to us, Turn Based Lovers, but for news completeness, I must mention Nested Lands also. A multiplayer RPG survival game under Owlcat Games’ sub-label META Publishing. Players will collaboratively manage and expand their settlements, navigating challenges and exploring fresh gameplay mechanics. A new trailer can be watched here.
