Demonschool JRPG

I’ve had my eye on Demonschool for a while now, and even if it looks like it takes forever to come out, the new trailer shown during the PC Gaming Show confirms it’s still one of the most intriguing tactics RPGs on the horizon. Developed by Necrosoft Games and published by Ysbryd Games (WORLD OF HORROR, VA-11 HALL-A), Demonschool is now targeting a Q3 2025 release across all major platforms.

Demonschool RPG

You play as Faye, a first-year student at a mysterious island university haunted by demonic forces pulled straight from Italian horror cinema and Japanese manga. Combat plays out on a tactical grid with clear Into the Breach inspiration: you map out all your moves during a planning phase and then watch everything unfold at once in the action phase. It’s clean, stylish, and surprisingly fast for a tactics game.

Outside combat, the school-life structure gives you time to train your party, explore the island, build bonds, and uncover secrets behind the university’s twisted history. There are 15 playable characters, each with unique skills, from powerful kicks to summoned rock pillars and healing spells, and building relationships between them unlocks flashy combo attacks during fights.

The whole presentation nails a distinct vibe: moody lighting, horror-tinged animations, and a weird, retro-modern aesthetic that sets it apart from most RPGs I’ve seen this year. And from the sound of it, there’s a full semester’s worth of mysteries, minigames, and demon-hunting ahead.

Demonschool is set to launch in Q3 2025 on PC via Steam, as well as on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. Below are more details and a new trailer.

MORE DETAILS

Demonschool is a new-style tactics RPG where motion equals action. Defeat big weirdos in between the human and demon worlds as Faye and her misfit companions, while navigating university life on a mysterious island.

  • Tactics: Rewind any action during the planning phase and create combos to dispatch your foes.
  • Story: A light horror narrative told through huge avatars with side quests aplenty.
  • Schedule: Plan your school schedule to level your characters and build their skills.
  • Friendship: 15 characters with whom to build relationships.

Units interact contextually with their environment. Enemies will be struck, objects moved, or the character will simply dash.

Plan movements at your leisure, and execute them all at once. You can also rewind actions during the planning phase.

Buffing friendlies and debuffing enemies compounds damage output. Note the damage numbers!

Combos do big damage and produce unique elemental attacks, which you can use to exploit enemy weaknesses.

Explore a mysterious island that reveals its mysteries morning, noon, and night, day by day, week by week, across a university semester. Plan your team’s schedule to enhance their skills and gain new abilities. Gain new teammates and enhance their relationships depending on who you choose to pursue.
