This is definitely one of the games I’m keeping on my radar while waiting for it to leave Early Access, which is currently slated for 2027. In the meantime, though, Aethermancer keeps tempting me with new content and updates, like the massive one that was just released.
The monster-taming roguelike from Monster Sanctuary dev moi rai games has received its largest Early Access update so far.
Titled Alchemical Awakening, the update is now live on Steam and expands the game with a new biome, additional monsters, a new monster type, a new Monster Deity, difficulty changes, and several quality-of-life improvements.
The main addition is Alchemical Woods, an alternative Tier-1 biome that becomes available after players beat the base difficulty and collect 15 monster mementos. The area gives players another possible starting route for future runs and introduces new interactables, support-focused creatures, and more Monsterkin to bring back to Pilgrim’s Rest.
The update also adds nine new monsters, bringing the roster to 40 monsters before shifted versions are counted. Alongside them comes Echo, a new monster type built around support-action synergies. Echo stacks can allow certain support actions to trigger again, opening new team-building options for players who enjoy buff-heavy or support-oriented compositions.
Another major addition is Khepri, the game’s second Monster Deity. The update also renames difficulty levels to Vestiges and adds a new higher difficulty tier.
Other changes include food items sold by the Merchant, updated music, new NPC dialogue, new actions and traits for existing monster types, controller navigation improvements, an accessibility option to reduce white flashes, balance adjustments, and more bug fixes.
The developers have also updated the Early Access roadmap, confirming that both the final Early Access update and the full 1.0 release have been pushed back to allow more time for polish and additional work on the existing content.
