Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord has just joined the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, giving subscribers at the Extra and Premium tiers the chance to play the acclaimed tactical RPG at no additional cost.

The game follows the exiled prince Alain as he rallies allies across the continent of Fevrith to resist the empire of Zenoira. Instead of focusing on micromanaged turn-by-turn combat, it emphasizes preparation, unit placement, and strategy on large battlefields, combining real-time overworld movement with automated but highly tactical clashes.
With more than 60 recruitable characters drawn from humans, elves, angels, and beasts, and a world rendered in Vanillaware’s signature 2D artistry, it offers both depth and visual flair.
Critics praised its blend of real-time maneuvering and tactical encounters, describing it as a fresh take on the genre while drawing inspiration from classics like Ogre Battle. Players themselves continue to celebrate its replayability, with some reporting multiple full playthroughs and still finding the desire to return.
