Coldwild Games, an indie game development company based in Riga, Latvia, has just released its latest creation, Stories from the Outbreak. This turn-based zombie roguelike RPG is available on Steam Early Access as of March 27th, 2023.
In this game, players are transported to the year 2020, where a new disease has taken over the world. Zombies roam the streets, and the once-thriving cities have crumbled into chaos. As a survivor, players must scavenge for supplies, fight off the undead, and make tough decisions to keep their crew alive.
Stories from the Outbreak offer a shorter scenario to introduce players to the early stages of the apocalypse. With 11 unique characters, over 15 enemy types, and three expansive maps, players are in for a challenging and immersive experience. The game’s permadeath gameplay means that not every party will make it to the end of the journey, adding an extra layer of tension to every decision.
Planned features for the game include forming a team of survivors and deciding the fate of each member as they navigate the apocalyptic landscape. It also explores polarization in views, with characters often disagreeing on what the best course of action is. Will these differences prevent them from reaching their goal of escaping the doomed city?
