Without a doubt, this is one of the titles I’ve been following with the most interest and curiosity. It’s a tactical strategy game set in the Viking Age, and it looks truly impressive.
Up until now, I had only been able to enjoy it through teasers and screenshots, but now there’s finally a gameplay trailer, which you’ll find at the end of this article.
The new footage was revealed during FGS Live from gamescom by developer Arctic Hazard and publisher Tripwire Presents, giving players their best look yet at the game’s blend of strategy, settlement management, and brutal Viking combat. The title is now available to wishlist on PC platforms.
The trailer highlights tactical battles where swords, axes, and positioning dictate survival. Players step into the role of Gunnar, a young warrior driven by vengeance after the betrayal and murder of his father, Jarl Gripr, at the hands of Steinarr Far-Spear.
The story follows Gunnar as he rebuilds his settlement, forges alliances, and leads his warband in a quest to reclaim honor and power. Alongside combat, players will manage resources and grow their village from a modest camp into a fortified stronghold, with key residents like blacksmiths providing crucial services.
Customization is another focus, as the footage showcases the variety of equipment and abilities available for creating a warband suited to different strategies. Every choice feeds into the game’s branching narrative, shaping Gunnar’s relationships and the outcome of his journey.
The story is penned by Sunday Times bestselling author Giles Kristian, known for his historical fiction and sagas, ensuring the narrative remains firmly rooted in Norse culture and mythology.
Music will play a central role in the atmosphere of NORSE: Oath of Blood. Tripwire announced that the soundtrack will feature contributions from Galdorcræft, a dark neo-folk band blending ancient instruments like the nyckelharpa, lyres, horns, and skin drums with modern arrangements.
Their compositions, including the first track Stígr, aim to immerse players in a soundscape that echoes Viking ritual and mythology. Composer Gaz Bailey joins the project as well, bringing additional depth to the score.
Set in the rugged landscapes of Dark Age Norway, the game emphasizes both historical grounding and mythic resonance. Players can expect a mix of grounded tactical decision-making, cultural authenticity, and sweeping storytelling as Gunnar transforms from warrior to legend.
NORSE: Oath of Blood is scheduled to launch in 2025 on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
