Mewgenics, the long-awaited cat-breeding RPG from The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen and co-developer Tyler Glaiel, is finally set to release in 2025. Originally announced in 2012 as a follow-up project from Team Meat, the game has undergone a tumultuous development journey, including a lengthy hiatus while McMillen and former partner Tommy Refenes focused on Super Meat Boy Forever. After McMillen’s departure from Team Meat in 2018, Mewgenics continued to evolve independently, blending turn-based RPG elements with McMillen’s signature dark humor and grotesque animation style.

The new teaser trailer, revealed via IGN alongside updates to the game’s Steam page, showcases Mewgenics’ quirky mechanics and its focus on legacy roguelike gameplay. Players will breed cats, collect enchanted furniture, level up their home base, and engage in tactical battles across an ever-expanding world. Promising over 200 hours of gameplay, 800+ unique items, and more than 200 enemies and bosses, Mewgenics looks to offer a chaotic, endlessly replayable experience steeped in bizarre charm.

McMillen and Glaiel have maintained steady communication with fans through regular development blog posts, teasing the game’s evolution over the years. With hands-on coverage set to be published by IGN in May. Below the teaser trailer.
