Mega Crit has set a date for its next climb. Slay the Spire 2 launches in Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026, bringing the studio back to the roguelite deckbuilding loop that made the original a genre reference point.

Early Access starts with a mix of new and returning characters, built around the same core rhythm of drafting a deck, routing through branching encounters, and stacking relic-driven power spikes that can turn a shaky run into a winning one.
The developers say the Spire has been dormant for 1,000 years in the sequel’s setup, and the ascent leans harder into uncovering fragments of its past through repeated runs, with new environments, new enemies, and new story beats tied to the residents you meet along the way.

The biggest rules change is multiplayer. Slay the Spire 2 supports cooperative play for up to four players, with cards designed for multiplayer and synergy hooks meant to reward coordination, timing, and shared risk management during fights. It is still playable solo, but the coop layer looks built around team scaling, where one player can enable another player’s turn through setup cards, shared payoff relics, or combo lines that would be hard to justify in a single deck.
Mega Crit is framing Early Access as a long balancing phase, similar to how the first game evolved through feedback, tuning passes, and quality of life upgrades.
The studio expects something in the one to two year range, and it plans to expand the full release with more gameplay content, a true ending, additional modes, broader hardware compatibility, more languages, and a larger pile of fixes and balance work.

Slay The Spire 2 features five playable characters at the start, with two of them being brand new. Each character has a distinct card pool and playstyle, and the hook is familiar in the best way.
You build a run by drafting attacks, skills, powers, relics, and consumables, then adapt your line to whatever the map throws at you, whether that is an elite check you cannot dodge or a shop that forces you into an awkward gold decision.
Slay the Spire 2 is developed and published by Mega Crit, with Early Access planned for March 5, 2026. Wishlisting is live on Steam ahead of release, and the developers have already published an Early Access trailer alongside the announcement that I share below.
