Top Turn-Based RPGs On August 2024

Let’s take a look at all the New August 2024 RPGs and Strategy Games.

There’s a sweltering heat that can be felt intensely, and it’s relentless. The upcoming August releases certainly won’t cool things down; instead, they’ll be allies of the heat, given the hot titles set to debut in the coming days. As I usually do at the beginning of the month, I’ve compiled a list of RPGs, strategy games, and everything in between or on the side, all with confirmed release dates on PC.

What undoubtedly fascinates us the most is Sword of Convallaria as we delve into what it’s really made of. But then there are many other interesting projects to consider, such as ArcoSteamworld Heist II, Tactical Breach Wizards, and more. One thing is for sure: there’s a bit of everything to satisfy every taste. So sit back, and let’s take a look at what you’ll be playing in August.

Sword Of Convallaria

Let’s start with Sword of Convallaria, the brand-new tactical RPG that tries to wink at Final Fantasy Tactics. But will it succeed? In this fantasy tactical RPG, players take on the role of a mercenary leader in the mineral-rich nation of Iria, navigating a complex narrative filled with plot twists and strategic choices that shape the story’s outcome.

Sword of Convallaria Gameplay

The game features grid-based combat where players deploy and train a diverse roster of unique mercenaries, utilizing battlefield elements to secure victory. Enhanced with NeoPixel art, the game combines classic pixel graphics with modern 3D renderings for a premium visual experience. Yes, it is a gacha game, but perhaps in the least invasive way possible. Read our review to find out more.

Steamworld Heist II

One of the most acclaimed titles in recent years is about to debut its second chapter in the Steamworld Heist saga this August. This RPG features a combat system set on intricate 2D maps, where players become a sort of sniper playing pool, using the walls to ricochet bullets to hit enemies inside a steampunk universe where water has mysteriously turned deadly, threatening the mechanical hearts and limbs of the Steambots.

Steamworld Heist II

Players take charge as Captain Leeway, leading a diverse crew to uncover the source of this enigmatic menace on the Great Sea. The game features innovative turn-based combat and real-time naval combat. Base raids and treasure plundering add layers of depth to the gameplay, while lively bars offer places to upgrade gear and forge alliances. Steamworld Heist II arrives on PC and Consoles on August 8th.

Preserve

Close your eyes, relax, put on some good music, and install Preserve, a new, relaxing base-building game, a genre very popular lately. In this game, the player won’t be building a city but will instead repopulate wildlife and balance the ecosystem.

Preserve Base Building

Players aim to achieve a balanced, symbiotic environment by strategically placing plants and animals. Unique to Preserve is its vertical map expansion feature, allowing players to stack layers of nature and build interconnected habitats.

The game offers various biomes, from alpine forests to Caribbean reefs, each with its distinct flora, fauna, and environmental challenges. Multiple game modes, including harmony, puzzle, creative, and photo modes, provide varied gameplay experiences. It will also be available on August 8th on Steam.

Skillsworn

About twenty days ago, we introduced Skillsworn on TBL pages. Now, this intriguing tactical game focused on combat and skill acquisition is ready to debut on August 9th. Skillsworn is a low-poly, party-based, turn-based adventure game in which players take on the role of a new party leader tasked with stabilizing the lands of Thera in the name of the King.

Skillsworn Tactical RPG

Players will journey through diverse, hand-crafted maps, from arid deserts to goblin-infested forests, each presenting unique challenges. The game emphasizes strategy in party formation and skill acquisition, with over 125 skills to capture from defeated foes and the most powerful abilities obtained by vanquishing formidable enemies.

Crafting plays a significant role, allowing players to create weapons and armor with unique benefits and influencing combat strategies. Players must wisely choose their gear, such as defensive swords or fiery wands, to best suit their party’s needs. The dangerous world of Thera is filled with a variety of enemies, from Boglins to undead and mind-warping aberrations, each requiring different tactics to defeat. Indeed, it’s an RPG worth trying out.

Arco

Now, I come to one of the titles I’m most looking forward to this month. It’s called Arco, and it’s an incredibly interesting tactical RPG with a simultaneous combat system, a captivating setting, and fantastic pixel art.

Arco Tactical RPG

Players guide four unlikely heroes on a quest against the Red Company gang, traversing lush forests, sweeping plains, and scorching deserts to unlock game-changing skills, recruit powerful allies, and gather crucial resources.

Each campaign spotlights a different character, each with unique abilities, providing diverse gameplay experiences. The story unfolds from multiple viewpoints, adding depth and intrigue to the adventure. The release is scheduled for August 15th. In the meantime, you can try the demo and see for yourself why this title truly deserves to be played.

Get To The Gate

Get To The Gate is an intriguing first-person Dungeon Crawler RPG (dungeon crawler RPGs are always interesting) that follows Maria, a girl trapped in a Western fantasy world filled with realistic, terrifying monsters. The game’s goal is to help Maria reach the Gate to the world of the living, navigating through dungeons teeming with undead creatures.

Get To The Gate

As Maria’s fear builds, she loses mana, causing her to panic and run to safety, which also respawns the enemies. Players must strategically find shortcuts and treasures while managing Maria’s mana to avoid panic.

The game features a turn-based combat system where players can think through their moves, using magic stones to cast spells and improve weapons. Additionally, a city of peaceful spirits offers trading and upgrades to aid Maria on her quest. Expected for the 18th of August Via Steam.

Tactical Breach Wizards

Another highly anticipated release is Tactical Breach Wizards, debuting on August 22nd. The magic world blends with the urban, gritty, and real, to the point where a wizard wears a bulletproof vest and wields a rifle, grenades, and much more.

Tactical Breach Wizards

The gameplay focuses on clever spell combinations and strategic combat, with the unique feature of being able to rewind time to experiment with different tactics. Each wizard in your team has distinct abilities, allowing for diverse and satisfying spell combos. The story-driven campaign spans approximately 14 hours, involving battles against various foes like the Rushwater PD, an oppressive religious dictatorship, and a private military corporation.

Players can upgrade their wizards’ abilities, tailor their powers, and unlock perks to suit their playstyle. The game also emphasizes character development, as players delve into the personal struggles of their team members and guide them toward growth and camaraderie.

Breachway

And we’ll wrap up with Breachway. Yes, this time, it seems like it’s finally happening for the FTL-like game, which, after several delays, is ready to arrive on Steam on August 30th with its stylish and intriguing mechanics.

Breachway invites players to captain a warship through the galaxy, blending turn-based strategy with deck-building mechanics. Assemble your crew and customize your ship with a variety of weapon systems, defensive upgrades, and internal modules, each choice adding new cards to your deck.

Breachway

The game emphasizes finding powerful synergies between equipment and crew members, whose unique skills and allegiances play a crucial role in your journey. Navigate complex relationships with six distinct factions, from the militaristic Solarii to the tech-savvy Numen, each influencing your story and access to resources.

Engage in tactical card battles where resource management, strategic foresight, and adaptability are key to overcoming enemies. Your actions and decisions shape the narrative, presenting morally gray choices and varied events that keep each run fresh. Strive to uncover the mysterious Signal, leveraging better tools and knowledge with each attempt. Will you align with the industrious Argus Union, or the freedom-loving Free Roamers? The choices are yours in this dynamic, replayable space adventure.

That’s all I have to show you this month. I hope I didn’t miss anything, but in any case, you can now let me know directly through our brand-new Reddit community, where you can find all our content and comment on it. It’s a great way to get your feedback and exchange opinions. Wish you the best. Ciao
