One of the absolute most anticipated RPGs of 2023 has finally been released. Video games set in the Warhammer 40k universe have been around since the ’90s but over the years, it hasn’t really captured much of the RPG audience rather catered to the action and strategy communities. However, with CRPGs rising in popularity over the recent years, developer Owlcat Games have had some recent success with their game, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. And just 2 years later, they finally released their next massive project, Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, the first ever CRPG in the Warhammer 40k universe. Releasing in most platforms: PC, Xbox, and PlayStation – to accommodate as much of its player base as possible.
A little trivia about the game’s title, fans of the Warhammer 40k universe and tabletop games will recognize that “Rogue Trader” was actually the in development title of the very first edition of the 40k tabletop game. This sort of brings the franchise back full circle, looking back to the universe’s beginnings to the entertainment juggernaut that it is today.

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader is the latest CRPG by Owlcat Studios. The studio is known for making games such as Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. These recent successes allowed them to dive deep into the Warhammer 40k universe. The game does away with Pathfinder’s “real-time with pause” mechanics in order to focus more on delivering a deep tactical combat. Being set in the Warhammer 40k universe, you can expect a story-rich classical RPG drenched in dark gritty sci-fi themes that the franchise is known for.
