Devir is bringing The Red Cathedral to PC via Steam, iOS, Mac and Android this fall, turning the acclaimed board game into a digital turn-based strategy release for one to four players. The new version will support cross-platform play, so players on Steam and mobile will be able to compete against each other online.

The Red Cathedral is built around a simple goal: players take on the role of architects tasked with helping build Saint Basil’s Cathedral and earn the Tsar’s favor.
To do that, they claim sections of the cathedral, gather materials, manage resources, and decide when to build or decorate. Every move matters, because prestige decides the winner once the cathedral is complete.

The board game has earned attention over the years for how much strategy it fits into a compact format.
Devir says the physical version has sold more than 100,000 copies, with recognition from the Tric Trac d’Or and Board Game Quest Awards. Its design leans on careful resource timing, competition over shared spaces, and a rondel system that makes each turn feel like a small puzzle.

The digital edition keeps that structure while adding the usual comforts of the format. Players will be able to play solo against AI across three difficulty levels, learn the rules through a step-by-step tutorial, or jump into local and online multiplayer.
Matches can be played with friends or against random opponents, with cross play planned across Steam, Android, and iOS.
Devir is also adapting and expanding the board game’s artwork for the digital version. That should help the game keep its tabletop identity while making the interface clearer for PC and mobile play.
