Inspired by Eye Of The Beholder and Legend Of Grimrock but with its own Unique Elements
Yesterday, we introduced a dungeon crawler featuring first-person exploration and an isometric combat system. Today, I’m excited to present Golel, a roguelike that clings tightly to the tradition of first-person exploration RPGs developed by a single Israeli dev named Ofer Rubinstein.
This dark fantasy game immerses players in eerie, monster-infested dungeons. In Golel, players take on the role of a warrior plagued by unsettling visions, embarking on a perilous quest filled with both hostile monsters and enigmatic non-hostile entities. The game features turn-based combat and tile-based movement, emphasizing strategic thinking and tactical use of the environment. Players can drop bookshelves on enemies, kick foes into traps, or evade monsters in narrow corridors, relying on mobility and environmental interaction for survival.
Golel offers extensive character development with hundreds of skills and stats, as well as built paths, providing a deep and customizable RPG experience. The non-linear world allows players the freedom to choose their path, enhancing replayability. The main campaign spans approximately 30 hours, and a procedural rogue-like challenge mode offers endless gameplay after the campaign’s completion.
Golel supports both standard and VR modes, promising an immersive experience. With its rich gameplay mechanics, atmospheric setting, and strategic combat, it is expected for a Q2 2025 release, but in the meantime, you can give the demo a try. Below is an overview, screens, and trailer.
