Spanish studio Crossbros is preparing a handcrafted tactical JRPG roguelite for Steam and Steam Deck in 2027.

Spanish indie studio Crossbros has released a new trailer for Heroes of Anirea, a tactical JRPG roguelite now preparing for Kickstarter.

The studio, based in Jaén, Spain, is using the trailer to open the game’s pre-campaign and give players a first proper look at its world, party system, and handcrafted visual style.

Heroes of Anirea is built around turn-based tactical battles, roguelite progression, and a large cast of playable characters. Players will be able to recruit from more than 20 heroes, each with a different skillset, playstyle, and personal story.

That roster sits at the center of the game’s structure, since each run will ask players to build a party, make equipment choices, and adapt to new battles as the campaign unfolds.

Crossbros describes the game as a love letter to classic tactical JRPGs, but with a faster pace. Combat uses a unique ATB system, so turn order and timing should matter alongside the usual tactical RPG concerns like positioning, damage types, and party roles.

Elemental strengths and weaknesses are also part of the battle system, giving players another reason to think carefully about matchups and team synergy.

The roguelite side comes through procedurally generated campaigns, recruitable heroes, item rewards, and decisions that can change the course of a run. They will need to work with the heroes and equipment they find, then shape a squad capable of surviving tougher fights and difficult choices.

The game’s art direction is another major part of the pitch. Heroes of Anirea uses fully handcrafted 2.5D pixel art, with frame-by-frame animation across its pixel assets.

Crossbros is combining pixel art props, low poly models, and real-time lighting to give the world more depth while keeping the texture and clarity of classic pixel-based RPGs. It is a careful mix of old and new, and the new trailer leans heavily on that handcrafted look.

Heroes of Anirea is planned for release on Steam and Steam Deck in 2027, with Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 versions expected to follow shortly after.

The Kickstarter campaign does not have a launch date yet, but players can already follow the pre-campaign page to be notified when it goes live and to gain access to early exclusive content. Below the announcement trailer.
