A crimson glow is creeping across Victorian London once more. Crimson Herring Studios and its new parent company, Zugalu Entertainment, have announced Hunter’s Moon: A Sovereign Syndicate Adventure, a deck‑building roguelite that will arrive on PC later this year before expanding to consoles.

Hunter's Moon Gameplay

Set several years before 2024’s narrative‑heavy CRPG Sovereign Syndicate, Hunter’s Moon trades isometric exploration for fast‑paced skirmishes.

Players assemble a squad of four fresh agents, each with their own card pool and upgrade paths, to confront a mysterious plague that has twisted London’s wildlife into Lovecraftian horrors.

Between runs, salvaged gold, relics, and enchanted tarot cards can be funnelled back into the team’s airship headquarters, unlocking permanent perks in classic roguelite fashion.

“We wanted to keep the tarot DNA that fans loved, but reimagine it through the lens of a tight, replayable combat game,” said Crimson Herring creative director Steve Snow in a press briefing. “Every shuffle of the deck should feel like you’re cutting open a vein of fate, and hoping it bleeds in your favour.”

Four ways to hunt:

  • The Brute: A steam‑powered pugilist who can chain together high‑risk, high‑reward strikes.
  • The Soldier: A rifle‑toting veteran whose suppressive fire generates bonus draws.
  • The Alchemist: A bomb‑slinger who manipulates status effects with volatile elixirs.
  • The Sleuth: A cloak‑and‑dagger tactician who turns discarded cards into surprise counters.
Events

Across four story chapters, the agents investigate back alleys, rooftop gardens, and soot‑choked foundries, piecing together clues that foreshadow the rise of Sovereign Syndicate protagonists Atticus, Clara, and Otto.

Each chapter culminates in a boss encounter, described by the studio as “puzzle fights” that reward observation as much as brute force.

The project will be the first to ship since Zugalu acquired Crimson Herring in May, a deal that united two of Alberta’s highest‑profile indies under one banner Gaming Amigos.

Boss Battles

Zugalu founder Branden Sloane said the merger has already paid dividends: “Crimson Herring’s narrative chops and our systemic design ethos are a perfect match. Hunter’s Moon is the proof‑of‑concept for how we’ll build games together going forward.”

Hunter’s Moon will launch later in 2025 for PC via Steam, with console versions to follow. A Steam page is live today. Below are more details and the trailer.
