Fogpiercer Roguelite

I’ve got some free time this weekend, so I’m diving into a bunch of games that have been sitting on the backlog list. Next up is Fogpiercer, a roguelite that puts you in charge of a lone wagon trying to survive treacherous journeys while dealing with bandits and other hazards. Fogpiercer takes a page out of games like FTL: Faster Than Light and adds its own twist, setting you against harsh, fog-covered terrain while you try to maintain your resources and fend off ambushes.

Developed by Mad Cookies Studio, it features a unique twist on traditional deckbuilding mechanics, where players upgrade and customize a powerful battle train. Each train carriage holds different cards that you use in combat, with a focus on synergies and tactical positioning.

Fogpiercer Roguelite

In Fogpiercer, you drive a train through a fog-covered, post-apocalyptic world, fending off bandits and forces of nature. Combat occurs on a turn-based grid, and careful positioning allows players to manipulate enemies—sometimes even pushing them into the train’s path for added destruction. The strategic aspect revolves around deciding which train carriages to upgrade, which add new cards to your deck, increasing your firepower or survival abilities.

As you progress, you’ll visit stations to heal, buy new upgrades, or strategically decide the best route forward, providing a rich roguelite experience that mixes grid-based tactics with deckbuilding mechanics.

The developers have a personal connection to trains, having grown up in Europe where trains played an essential role in their lives. This passion reflects in the game’s atmospheric setting and gameplay focus.

If you’re interested, you can check out more about the game on its Steam page or on Itch.io for updates and potential early access release set for 2025, below an overview, screens and trailer.

About This Game

Fogpiercer is a deckbuilder roguelite in which you build and upgrade your train to build your deck, fight off bandits on a square grid using unique carriage cards. Your final deck will depend on the decisions you make in the run.

Moments Of Genius

Positioning is key and if you play your cards right, you can get the enemies to attack each other, push them out of the way or even place them right into your path and crush them underneath your wheels!

Upgrade Your Train, Make Your Deck Powerful

Your train is your deck, each carriage holds unique cards and as your upgrade them, new cards get added to your deck ready to be used. Carriages have synergy cards too, which get activated when both carriages reach max level.

Make Tactical Decisions On the Map

Your journey is not an easy one. To get to the final destination of your train, you’ll have to make the right choices, sometimes risk making the wrong ones. As your understanding of the game deepens, so will the ideas of what can be done when deciding where to go next.

Stations That Let You Grow

Get your train to a station so that you can heal up or buy a new carriage. Grow stronger as you progress through your run or rebuild your machine after a tough fight.

Made By People That Love Trains

We’re a tiny team and each of us has a special place in their heart reserved for trains, having grown up in Europe, trains were always a part of our lives, taking them to get to school, work or just to travel on rainy Mondays. We’re making this game to connect meaningful, deep mechanics with a theme that’s dear to us.
