Sky Castle Studios, the team behind Hero Forge, is moving from miniature customization into a digital tactical RPG with Wildmagic Frontier, an upcoming deck-building tactics RPG for Windows PC and browsers.

A new teaser trailer offers a first look at Astara, a fantasy world transformed by unstable wild magic, while the game’s Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to launch on September 10, 2026.

At its core, Wildmagic Frontier revolves around assembling a party, recruiting companions, crafting cards, and building decks around combinations that can be used during grid-based tactical battles. But there is one element that immediately separates it from most games in the genre: your existing Hero Forge characters can come with you.

Import Your Hero Forge Miniatures

Players who own Hero Forge 3D Digital Miniatures will be able to import them directly into Wildmagic Frontier and use them as playable characters. Those without an existing collection can instead choose from a selection of premade archetypes.

Wildmagic Frontier Digital Tabletop

For me, this is easily the most interesting part of the concept. Character creators are usually isolated from the games that follow them, while here a miniature you may have originally designed for a tabletop campaign can become part of an entirely different RPG adventure.

Battlefields are designed to resemble elaborate tabletop dioramas, with Sky Castle Studios using a mixture of physical and digital sculpting to create environments that look more like handcrafted gaming tables than conventional video game maps.

Combat takes place across tactical grids where characters use cards during battle, and players can craft new ones before organizing them into decks built around specific synergies and combinations. The trailer does not yet reveal the full rules governing resources, turns, or card availability, so there are still plenty of details to learn about the combat system.

Recruit Companions and Expand Your Settlement

While exploring Astara, players can complete quests and recruit new companions, each bringing their own personality and combat approach to the party. Relationships appear to form part of that progression as well, giving the RPG side of the experience more weight outside individual encounters.

There is also a settlement to develop. Expanding your Frontier settlement can unlock additional heroes, connecting town progression with party building instead of treating the settlement as a completely separate management system.

Solo or Three-Player Co-op And Kickstarter Campaign

Wildmagic Frontier can be played entirely solo, but Sky Castle Studios is also developing the game around cooperative play.

Up to three players can adventure together, with multiplayer accessible directly through the browser. Given the tabletop inspiration behind the project, co-op feels particularly appropriate here.

Wildmagic Frontier is still early enough that several important combat details remain under wraps, but its foundation is already easy to understand: grid-based tactical encounters, deck construction, recruitable companions, settlement progression, and extensive character customization, all presented through a tabletop-inspired visual style.

The Wildmagic Frontier Kickstarter launches September 10, 2026. The game is currently planned for Windows PC and browsers, with both solo play and online co-op for up to three players. Below, I share the teaser trailer.
