Owlcat Games, the acclaimed developer behind RPG hits such as Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and Pathfinder: Kingmaker, has announced a significant expansion into the publishing arena. The studio, known for its deep commitment to narrative-driven games, is now setting its sights on helping independent developers bring their unique RPGs and storytelling experiences to the global gaming audience.

In a bold new initiative, Owlcat Games will offer comprehensive support to independent teams, providing essential services, funding, and expert guidance to ensure that these studios can bring their creative visions to life. This move represents Owlcat’s commitment to fostering the development of new role-playing games that might not strictly adhere to the traditional RPG genre but are united by their focus on rich storytelling, compelling characters, and immersive worldbuilding.

“We are eager to collaborate with teams that share our passion for crafting captivating stories through games,” said Andrey Tsvetkov, Head of Publishing at Owlcat Games. “These projects may not all be typical RPGs, but they will have a strong emphasis on narrative, characters, and worldbuilding. Having journeyed through the process of creating our dream games, we now have the expertise and resources to guide other teams on the path to realizing their dreams as well.”

After an extensive review process of over 50 projects, Owlcat Games has signed deals with two promising development studios: Emotion Spark Studio from Serbia and Another Angle Games from Poland.

Emotion Spark Studio is developing Rue Valley, a narrative RPG centered on a man trapped in a mysterious time loop during a psychotherapy session. The game delves deep into mental challenges, requiring the protagonist to navigate this anomaly and uncover its cryptic origins.

Meanwhile, Another Angle Games is working on Shadow of the Road, an isometric RPG set in an alternate history version of feudal Japan. The game promises a gripping story of samurai, honor, and loyalty, combined with intricate tactical turn-based combat. The world of Shadow of the Road is enriched with magical yokai and the fusion of steampunk technology, offering players a unique blend of fantasy and strategy.

Both of these titles are in the early stages of development, with more details expected to be revealed later this month at gamescom.

In addition to its new publishing ventures, Owlcat Games has acquired full control over the publishing label META Publishing. META Publishing, which previously assisted in the release of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous on PC and consoles in 2021, will continue to operate under its distinct strategy. The label focuses on gameplay-first titles, particularly those with co-op multiplayer features.
