We’re already halfway through September, making it the perfect time to check my wishlist and highlight the RPGs, strategy titles, and roguelites currently on deep discount, for sure great picks to strengthen your library.

Hellslave

The first game I absolutely have to recommend is Hellslave, currently sitting at an 85% discount. It’s a first-person, turn-based dungeon crawler RPG set in a world overrun by demons.
The story unfolds through anime-style sequences, which immediately reminded me of Berserk, a big plus. The mix of exploration and combat is very well executed, and the character progression system, with its variety of viable builds, is deeply satisfying.

Maybe Worldless flew under the radar for a lot of people, so with the heavy discount, it feels right to shine a spotlight on this intriguing mix of platformer and turn-based RPG with timing-based combat mechanics.
What really stands out is the art direction and the abstract concept that defines its world. The combat system is dynamic, relying on precise timing for both attacks and defenses, and the world unfolds in a Metroidvania-style exploration. Highly recommended. 60% Off
Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster

ATOM RPG: Post Apocalyptic Indie Game

Now let’s move on to something purely indie, but no less complex. In fact, maybe even deeper. I’m talking about ATOM RPG, one of the most compelling isometric RPGs of recent years.
Its inspirations are crystal clear, with Fallout leading the way, both in terms of setting and gameplay. A nuclear war has wiped everything out, and we’re among the few lucky, or unlucky, survivors trying to live on in the aftermath.
This time we’re not in America but in the Soviet Union, yet the essence is the same: desolation, inhumanity, and cruelty await. The character progression is fairly deep, with plenty of main and side quests to complete, and, more importantly, the freedom to handle them however you like.
On top of that 50% discount, it’s worth noting that the developer behind ATOM is currently working on a brand-new isometric fantasy RPG, already available on PC in Early Access.
Prime of Flames

Now let’s switch to a title with a pure roguelite approach, but built around a deep tactical combat system.
It’s called Prime of Flames, an RPG released in December 2022 that puts you in the role of a guide tasked with uniting different clans and uncovering past disasters.
It features the classic roguelite progression, unlocking new items and content not just by winning, but also through defeat.
The game offers two modes: one that follows the story, and another designed for players who love testing their limits. Combined with a fitting visual style, it makes for a solid experience. Currently sitting at 45% off.
Born of Bread

Back to RPGs, this time with a title that immediately brings Paper Mario to mind, both for its art style and its lighthearted tone.
It sports the trendy 2.5D look, a JRPG-inspired combat system with timing-based button inputs straight out of Paper Mario, and a standout twist: your battles are “live-streamed” and interacting with the audience can net you bonuses.
Charming on the visual side and playful enough to feel both relaxing and fun, it’s an experience worth checking out, and with a 75% discount, that’s just icing on the cake.
As far as the Eye

Like a carousel, I’m swinging you back and forth between RPGs and roguelites, and now it’s time for another roguelite, but with a stronger strategic focus.
It’s called As Far As The Eye, a strategy game where you guide a tribe of Pupils as the wind, helping them journey toward the center of the world known as The Eye, a sanctuary from a catastrophic flood
Along the way, you make strategic decisions about when to halt, harvest resources, craft structures, recruit new Pupils, and engage in research via a job-and-knowledge system, all while managing limited caravan space and navigating random events and sacred sites.
The game distinguishes itself with peaceful, non-combat gameplay, emphasizing planning, adaptation, and managing the risks posed by rising waters. 80% discount at the moment.
Hero’s Hour

And I’ll wrap up this list of recommendations with a strategy RPG in the style of Heroes of Might and Magic.
It’s the excellent Hero’s Hour, which features the classic turn-based exploration and point-of-interest conquest structure, but then switches things up with real-time combat. It’s a blast watching swarms of pixelated units clash and intermingle until the dust settles and you see how the battle turned out.
A recent highlight worth noting: a crossover with Songs of Conquest, which brought the Wielders from the latter into Hero’s Hour.
Overall, it’s a title I can recommend without hesitation, and right now, it’s 60% off.
