Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, its newly announced remaster of the genre‑defining strategy RPG, will ship with a trove of cut content that never made it into the original PlayStation release.

Final Fantasy Tactics Remake

Speaking in a post on Sony’s official blog, project director Kazutoyo Maehiro revealed that the team was forced to start from scratch after discovering the 1997 source code was missing. That drastic measure opened the door to restore scripted moments that had been left on the editing‑room floor nearly three decades ago.

“Entire strings of character dialogue were clipped back then for cartridge limits,” Maehiro explained. “We finally get to let those scenes breathe.”

The finished package includes two selectable modes: Classic, for purists who want the untouched tactics experience, and Enhanced, which folds the rescued dialogue into the campaign, rewrites certain conversations for clarity, and overlays brand‑new voice acting in English and Japanese.

Players who once wondered why stoic knight Agrias or engineer‑turned‑sharpshooter Mustadio fell silent after joining Ramza’s party will now hear them comment on pivotal battles and political intrigue.

Story beats surrounding antagonists such as Marquis Elmdore have also been expanded, giving new context to their wartime choices and tightening the game’s famously sharp commentary on class and conflict.

Maehiro says that while the script is larger, the pacing has been carefully retuned so that tactical missions flow faster than in 1997.

Beyond narrative tweaks, The Ivalice Chronicles revamps the user interface with re‑scalable menus, quick‑select commands, and optional grid overlays designed for modern displays.

Maehiro teased that development is well past the halfway mark on PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC and set to release on September 30th 2025.
