A free content drop brings a new storyline, three new classes, more bosses, biomes, quests, town upgrades, items, and another pet to the board game adaptation.
Arc Games and Snapshot Games say Frosthaven will get its second Early Access content update, Legacy of the Algox, on January 22, with the patch rolling out on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The update is being positioned as a big campaign step forward, built around the Algox conflict, and it arrives as a free update for everyone already playing in Early Access.
Frosthaven is the video game take on Isaac Childres’ board game, developed by Snapshot Games (Phoenix Point) and published by Arc Games.
It launched in Early Access on PC on July 31, 2025, with both single player and online co op support, and combat built around an ability card system where planning turn order, positioning, and resource burn matters. Players grow the outpost through buildings and upgrades that open up more systems over time.
Legacy of the Algox shifts the campaign focus to the tension between Algox tribes. According to the announcement, the Unfettered threat has been dealt with, and an Algox messenger shows up with information about a possible resolution.
That kicks off a new arc framed around negotiation, faction pressure, and choosing what the future relationship with the Algox looks like, with the usual Frosthaven promise that something worse is moving under the ice.
The headline gameplay hook is three new playable heroes, listed as Astral, Drill, and Shackles. The update describes them as advanced classes unlocked through completing scenarios, with new playstyles meant to change how parties are built and how turns are routed through a fight.
If you have been running the current Early Access roster, it sounds like the intent is to add more build tension and more reasons to rethink role coverage in a four-character squad.
Snapshot and Arc say it adds five bosses, two new biomes, and more than 25 new quests, plus nine building upgrades aimed at pushing the outpost layer further. There is also a new set of Town Hall challenges, described as objective-based tasks that improve party capability, and 31 new items that can be crafted or found during the new quest chain.
Pets get another bump, too. Legacy of the Algox adds one new pet, bringing the total to 11, and the announcement calls out a loop where pets are summoned from the Stables, brought into battle, and triggered for their own abilities, so they function as more than passive bonuses.
Early Access Frosthaven already leans on the board game’s structure, with distinct classes, scenario unlocks, and town growth shaping what tools you have on any given week.
If Legacy of the Algox lands the way it is being described, it should be the kind of patch that gives existing players new tactical problems to solve, since it adds new classes, new boss kits, new regions, and another layer of town progression at the same time.
