Miasma Chronicles Reviews

One is an RPG; the other is a Strategy Game; both are awesome…

I’ve been subscribed to Humble Choice for years and haven’t regretted a single day. Every month, I get something I was waiting for or had set aside because it was out of my budget. For example, in January, I was able to redeem Marvel Midnight Suns. This month, I can get my hands on two valuable turn-based titles, among others.

For those unfamiliar, Humble Choice is the subscription plan of Humble Bundle, offering games, books, software, and digital content, with part of the proceeds going to charity. The subscription costs $12 per month and provides access to 8 notable titles plus extras like discount coupons and other digital products. Subscribing for multiple months activates a fixed discount on all store purchases.

In the June 2024 Choice content, we find high-value titles like Risk of Rain 2, Knights of Honor II, Stray Gods, and many more. However, what makes this bundle particularly interesting for turn-based lovers are two titles: the 4X Strategy Warhammer Battlesector and the story-driven RPG from the creators of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, called Miasma Chronicles.

Warhammer 40,000 Battlesector

For those who don’t know, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is a fast-paced turn-based strategy game developed by Black Lab Games and published by Slitherine Ltd. Released on July 22, 2021, it is set in the grimdark universe of the 41st Millennium.

Battlesector

Players can command iconic units like the Sanguinary Priest and the Hive Tyrant, using abilities and weapons. The game features a twenty-mission single-player campaign, skirmish mode, and various multiplayer options, including live, asynchronous, and hot seat modes. It has received “Very Positive” reviews from users on Steam, praising its faithful adaptation of the Warhammer 40K tabletop game.

Battlesector is highlighted for its strategic depth, engaging gameplay, and adherence to Warhammer 40K lore; detailed unit customization, diverse factions, and tactical challenges also make it a must-have strategy game. Here is our review.

Miasma Chronicles

Released in March 2023 by the team at The Bearded Ladies, known for the digital adaptation of the popular tabletop game Mutant Year Zero, Miasma Chronicles features a tactical combat system with stealth mechanics set in a post-apocalyptic America ravaged by a mysterious force known as the ‘Miasma.’

Miasma Chronicles

Players follow the journey of a young man named Elvis, who, equipped with a special glove, must navigate the wasteland with his robotic brother to uncover the truth about the Miasma. The game combines real-time exploration with turn-based combat and RPG elements, featuring upgradable weapons and abilities.

Miasma Chronicles has received mostly positive reviews, praised for its engaging tactical gameplay and rich storytelling, featuring beautifully crafted environments, diverse characters, and a deep, involving narrative. Here, you can read our review about it.
