Starfinder Afterlight

Starfinder: Afterlight dropped a teaser trailer just a few hours ago, and from the first gameplay snippets, the visuals already look stunning.

As always, since I’m pretty clueless when it comes to tabletop gaming, I’ve only now realized that this is actually a digital adaptation of a renowned TTRPG. Let’s dive into all the known details.

Starfinder: Afterlight

Barcelona-based indie studio Epictellers Entertainment revealed Starfinder: Afterlight, a single-player, party-based CRPG developed in partnership with Paizo but self-published by Epictellers, marking the franchise’s first full videogame adaptation.

Afterlight’s premise is classic space-opera melodrama: your ship’s captain has vanished, doomsday looms over the Pact Worlds, and only a rag-tag crew of unlikely heroes stands between civilisation and annihilation.

Player choices, profit or mercy, vengeance or forgiveness, ripple through a branching narrative in which factions remember every deed and companions judge every moral lapse.

Those companions number six, ranging from an android assassin to a mystic prophet. Each carries personal quests and can flourish, falter, or even turn against you depending on how you handle their dilemmas.

Combat adapts Starfinder Second Edition’s three-action economy, letting Soldier, Envoy, Operative, Mystic, Solarian, and Witchwarper builds weave gunplay, cosmic magic, and gadgetry in turn-based battles.

Video-game conveniences such as difficulty sliders, from story-only to tactical nightmare, sit alongside promises of full mod support for players who want to tinker under the hood.

The campaign is expected to span 40–60 hours for a single run, but Epictellers stresses that alternate paths and companion outcomes reward repeat playthroughs.

The roadmap is straight out of the modern indie-RPG playbook: a Kickstarter campaign will open soon, after which the game is slated to enter Steam Early Access in 2026. The studio says the final 1.0 launch will follow when it’s ready, giving backers and early adopters a long runway to shape balance, encounters, and UI.

Production values lean on proven talent. BAFTA winner Neil Newbon (Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3) is directing the voice cast, while Spanish composer Eduardo de la Iglesia is scoring the soundtrack.

English will ship with full voice-over, and French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), and Catalan are already confirmed for UI and subtitles.

Epictellers itself is a 2023-founded, fully remote outfit of roughly 11-50 staff headquartered in Barcelona. CEO Ricard Pillosu, a 20-year industry veteran, previously served as development director on Crytek’s Ryse: Son of Rome before leaving to create cRPGs.

If Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous proved there’s an appetite for crunchy tabletop adaptations, Afterlight aims to do the same for Paizo’s science-fantasy sister line, this time with cosmic dragons, undead empires, and digital gods thrown in for good measure.

Starfinder: Afterlight is confirmed on PC via Steam, and probably console releases will be influenced by the Kickstarter Campaign results, below the teaser trailer.
