Another day, another RPG to spotlight; this time featuring pixel art and animations that caught my eye at first glance. It’s actually a roguelite, to be precise, but it approaches the formula from the perspective of a party-based RPG, and I’ve gathered some information about it below.
Developed by Pixell Games, the upcoming indie RPG Arcane Rift mixes battles, character recruitment, equipment, skills, and procedurally generated adventures inside a colorful 2D pixel-art fantasy world.

The game takes place in Amaram, a land threatened by both mysterious Arcane Rifts and the advancing Amethyst Army. Players join the Rift Guild and lead a group of heroes against Throuzogard, whose forces are searching for the Crown of Wisdom. Obtaining it would allow him to complete the Triple Crown, an artifact said to grant enough power to elevate its bearer to godhood.
That fantasy conflict provides the backdrop, but Arcane Rift’s more interesting ideas seem to lie in how each run develops.
Build Your Party as the Run Unfolds
Instead of entering an adventure with a completely predetermined character party, Arcane Rift places considerable emphasis on adapting to what you discover.
Victories and special events can produce randomized rewards, forcing players to look for useful interactions between characters, skills, and equipment. Pixell Games currently lists more than 50 pieces of equipment and over 50 unlockable skills, alongside additional playable characters that can be recruited during progression.

The result is a system where buildcrafting should change from one attempt to another. A particularly strong item may encourage a different approach to a hero, while an unexpected skill could create a combination that was not available during a previous run. The important part will be recognizing those opportunities and constructing a functional party from whatever the game puts in front of you.
It is a familiar roguelite concept, but one that could become much more interesting when applied across an entire RPG party instead of a single character.
Weaknesses, buffs, debuffs, and ability interactions
Combat follows a traditional turn-based structure, with positioning and exact mechanical details still somewhat under wraps.
What Pixell Games has explained is that encounters revolve heavily around enemy weaknesses, buffs, debuffs, and ability interactions. Rift Guardians and other creatures have vulnerabilities that players will need to identify and exploit, making knowledge of the opposition an important part of the battle system.

This should also give the build system some practical weight. Collecting powerful skills is only one part of the equation; putting together abilities that complement one another and having the correct tools available against specific enemies appears to be equally important.
A Different Map for Every Run
The roguelite structure continues outside combat. Arcane Rift generates new maps for each adventure, populating them with randomized encounters, events, and decisions. Some situations may even result in discovering new allies.
The available rewards, characters encountered, events triggered, and route through the map can all influence how a particular run develops.

There is still plenty we do not know about the larger progression structure, including how much is retained between attempts, but the current setup suggests that adaptation will sit at the center of the experience. You are not simply building a strong party; you are building the strongest party you can with the resources presented during that particular journey.
An Upcoming RPG Worth Keeping an Eye On
Visually, Arcane Rift adopts a retro-inspired 2D pixel-art style, accompanied by a high-fantasy setting filled with knights, monsters, magic, and oversized bosses. The Steam page currently categorizes the game as a single-player RPG and lists system requirements for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
There is currently no confirmed release date, with Steam still listing Arcane Rift simply as “Coming Soon.”
The real test will be how much variety those systems can generate across repeated attempts. With dozens of skills and items already confirmed and party synergy positioned as one of its central mechanics, Arcane Rift has the foundations of an intriguing turn-based roguelite for players who enjoy experimenting with builds.
