Eiyuden Chronicle - Releases of April 2024

It’s April, and beyond the usual remarks about time flying, let’s dive into the most interesting upcoming releases for Turn-Based RPGs and Strategy games. Although not numerous, this selection includes titles I’ve been eagerly awaiting and others that might be this month’s dark horses.

April could be a significant month for RPGs, with one of the most anticipated isometric cRPGs finally launching after several delays, Square Enix returning to its turn-based roots with a new installment in a famous series, and the debut of a title I’m particularly excited for in 2024, serving as a spiritual successor to one of the greatest JRPGs ever. So, let’s start our list of the most interesting releases of April 2024.

Broken Roads

The journey of Broken Roads has been a long one, marked by intense development and delays, but it now officially seems time to dive into the post-apocalyptic Australia envisioned by the game’s development team, Drop Bear Bytes.

Gameplay CRPG

What makes Broken Roads one of my most anticipated titles? Certainly, the tactical combat system and the colorful isometric graphics stand out. Not to mention the Moral System, an “open” choice system that will shape both the protagonist and the game world. Everything is set for April 10, with the title expected on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and a currently paused release for the Nintendo Switch.

Revival: Recolonization

Revival: Recolonization is a 4X strategy game set on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Released in early access on June 28, 2023, by HeroCraft PC, the game is ready to present its final version on April 11th on PC via Steam. Revival: Recolonization features a dynamic world where the environment and rules can shift, offering a deeply replayable experience. Players explore, negotiate, or conquer to advance civilization through different epochs.

Revival Recolonization

It supports single-player mode, with early access aimed for community feedback to refine and expand content, including potential multiplayer features. The game has received very positive reviews for its engaging gameplay and strategic depth.

Headquarters: World War II

I usually overlook WW strategy games in my articles, but this time, I had to include this fascinating new strategy game in the month’s most important releases. Headquarters: World War II is a turn-based strategy game set for release on April 11, 2024, developed by Starni Games and published by Slitherine Ltd.

Headquarters Strategy PC Game

The game presents a detailed simulation of World War II battles, focusing on tactics and army management. Players can experience the war from multiple perspectives across Europe, with options to control the USA, the UK, or Germany, engaging in tank duels, occupying buildings, and utilizing strategic battlefield maneuvers. Here, you can find the Steam page.

Anomaly Collapse

Anomaly Collapse is a turn-based Roguelite strategy game developed by RocketPunch Games and published by Spiral Up Games, featuring a squad of anthropomorphic fierce warriors. It innovates with a one-dimensional battlefield grid, emphasizing strategic positioning and movement.

Anomaly Collapse Roguelike

Players craft unique battle strategies to equip their warriors with “abnormalities” for active or passive effects. Anomaly Collapse is expected on PC via Steam on the 12th of April.

Dream Tactics

Dream Tactics is an upcoming game described as a GBA-styled strategy RPG, where players utilize cards to shape combat strategies and customize characters. Set in a Dream World on the brink of collapse, players lead a hero named Neru to gather a team and confront the Dream Eater.

Dream Tactics

The game features over 100 cards for crafting unique playstyles, dynamic turns with new card draws, the ability to manage deck compositions, and a world filled with fluffy yet formidable pillow foes. Scheduled for release on April 15, 2024, on PC via Steam, it aims to offer a fresh tactical RPG experience.

Vertical Kingdom

Here’s another strategic game that brings in the concept of verticality. Vertical Kingdom is a unique fusion of a card-based city builder and a roguelite game, challenging players to construct their cities upwards.

Vertical Kingdom

The game’s narrative focuses on rebuilding an empire devastated by war, using a card-based system for construction, and managing resources like food, water, and materials. Challenges include dealing with terrain, resource shortages, and ensuring the empire’s growth. It features permanent building decisions, emphasizing strategic planning and management. Fairlight Games Industry developed the game, and it will be released on PC via Steam on April 15, 2024.

Nexus 5x

Nexus 5X is a strategic board game adapted for digital play, emphasizing swift turn-based 4X gameplay (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) for 2-8 players, wrapping up roughly within an hour. The game shines for engaging multiplayer sessions, where players select unique factions and leaders to vie for galactic supremacy.

Nexus 5x

Nexus 5X encourages diplomatic and military strategies to control the Nexus throne world, offering a condensed yet deep strategic experience, well-received with overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.

Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes

Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes is definitely the game I’m most looking forward to in 2024 for many reasons, but I’ll just introduce this highly promising JRPG. It’s developed by some of the same folks who previously worked on Suikoden, and that’s undeniably one of the many reasons why my excitement is through the roof.

Eiyuden Chronicle

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, set for release on April 23, 2024, on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, is a JRPG that brings together over 100 playable characters in a story-rich, turn-based combat adventure. The game unfolds in Allraan, a land defined by the alliances and conflicts among its diverse inhabitants.

Developed by Rabbit & Bear Studios and published by 505 Games, it aims to deliver a modern take on classic JRPG experiences, allowing players to lead a vast cast through a narrative-rich, war-torn world.

Saga Emerald Beyond

Back in the day, the name Square Enix would make me perk up immediately because their news and announcements would likely be about a new turn-based blockbuster. Sadly, those days are long gone, but today, I’m thrilled to announce a new turn-based, party-based JRPG from them: SaGa Emerald Beyond, a new standalone entry in the SaGa franchise set to release on April 25, 2024.

SaGa Emerald Beyond New JRPG

This RPG brings unique gameplay experiences by combining the series’ best elements. Players can look forward to a game filled with diverse worlds, characters, and strategic battles. The story branches based on choices, leading to multiple endings.

Key features include exploring 17 unique worlds, experiencing different story arcs with six protagonists, and engaging in refined Timeline Battles with new combat systems for strategic depth. On PC, Nintendo Switch & PlayStation.

Here are the most significant releases for me. I hope I haven’t missed anything, but if I did, please let me know on Twitter, Discord, or my much-loved YouTube channel, where you can find the video version of this article with trailers. Remember to spread joy and peace in the world. Ciao
