We’ve all felt it, the urge to buy a new game. It’s not that the games in your library are bad or boring; you just want something new! We get it. That’s an expensive itch to scratch, though, but luckily Steam has some stellar deals on remarkable RPGs and strategy games going on right now.
Some of these discounts are truly remarkable, especially considering they’re attached to must-play games that tower over the turn-based world. At these prices, you can probably find an excuse to splurge a little. We won’t tell.
SpellForce: Conquest of Eo

I personally recommend Weaver’s Realms, which includes a map randomizer!
The Lamplighters League

Inspired by 1930s pulp adventure, The Lamplighters League is one of the best tactical strategy games of the 2020s so far. It mixes clever stealth and guns-blazing action, with a roguish cast of heroes to recruit and command as you fight the insidious global conspiracy of the Banished Court.
This is a game that’s certainly worth it’s $49.99 price tag, but that’s still a hefty chunk of change. If you’ve had your eyes on The Lamplighters League, consider taking advantage of the Paradox Publisher Sale (running through 7 May), which has the game 50% off to just $24.99. You can also get the Deluxe Edition for 47% off, snagging the base game plus all the DLC for just $34.34 in total.
The Dragoness: Command of the Flame

The Dragoness has a free demo on Steam, but considering it’s discounted 85% to just $2.99 from its usual price of $19.99, curious players might consider just buying it outright. The sale lasts until 16 May, though, so you’ve got plenty of time if you’d prefer to go the demo route.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns

It’s no surprise that the developers behind XCOM would make a fantastic tactical game, and the addition of Marvel’s superheroic roster makes Midnight Suns a top pick. Even if you aren’t a fan of the comics or movies, there’s plenty to love in this stunning RPG.
Steam has Marvel’s Midnight Suns at a very generous 85% off until 14 May, taking its price down from $59.99 to a much more palatable $8.99. If you watched Twitch around Halloween of 2021, you probably saw lots of streamers playing Inscryption. This horror escape room with a deckbuilder baked in is much more than a flash-in-the-pan viral hit, though; it’s a cleverly crafted, genuinely creepy experience that’s well deserving of the praise and recognition it received.
Inscryption is reasonably priced in general at $19.99, but until 11 May you can save 60% if you get it on Steam, where it’s listed at just $7.99. You can also get the game as part of several bundles, including one with Daniel Mullins’ other wonderfully strange titles, Pony Island and The Hex.

OCTOPATH TRAVELER

Octopath Traveler has all but cemented its place as a modern classic among JRPG enthusiasts, with three games and counting in less than a decade, all of them excellent.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong – Extended Edition

This is a Paradox game, so there’s a lot of DLC, but the base game has plenty to sink your teeth into for starters. Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains

Whether you’re in it for the lore and history or the classic RPG gameplay, this is an adventure well worth taking.
