New Turn-Based RPGs to Play - May 16, 2026

Here we are at our weekly roundup, where we take a look at all the new releases from the past few days, focusing exclusively on RPGs, roguelites, and turn-based strategy games, with a few exceptions here and there when they’re worth the spotlight.

Last week leaned heavily toward deckbuilders, but this week things are a bit different, with several interesting titles on the table, including two I’d been eagerly waiting for, plus a few hidden gems you might not have heard of at all.

NITRO GEN OMEGA (Out of Early Access)

  • Developers: DESTINYbit
  • Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox
  • Release Date: May 12, 2026
  • Steam Page
NITRO GEN OMEGA lets you command a giant mech.

Let’s start my recap with NITRO GEN OMEGA, which is finally out of Early Access, and it is a good opener because it brings a big, loud, anime-styled mecha RPG into the turn-based lineup.

DESTINYbit’s tactical sandbox puts players on a massive continent ruled by rogue AI, where a custom crew pilots a mech through contracts, side quests, sonar events, and cinematic battles that play out after a planning phase.

The 1.0 version adds the main quest, new cutscenes, rewritten character material, more achievements, Steam Deck verification, balance work, and around 260 new mech parts, bringing the total to more than 540.

A game built around crew bonds, mech builds, injuries, fatigue, and those dramatic combat swings where critical hits, limit breaks, breakdowns, and last-second hero moments can change a fight. It is available now on Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Instruments of Power (Demo)

  • Developers: Iron Loop Games
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: 2026
  • Steam Page
Instruments of Power

After mechs and crew drama, Instruments of Power shifts the mood toward spellcraft, terrain control, and tactical problem solving.

A turn-based RPG built around a magic system where spells are not just selected from a list. Players build them, then use primordial magic to spread fire, ice, thorns, lightning, and other battlefield effects before consuming those elements through ritual spells.

That loop gives each turn a setup-and-payoff rhythm, with the mage projecting disposable avatars into dangerous sites while fighting from a sanctuary outside space and time.

The newly released Steam demo offers an early look at that structure, including the game’s custom spell system, tactical positioning, and roguelite elements ahead of its planned 2026 launch on PC.

Psychic Kung Fu Master

  • Developers: 金十四工作室
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 14, 2026
  • Steam Page
Psychic Kung Fu Master

Keeping with the theme of unusual power fantasies, Psychic Kung Fu Master trades ritual magic for wuxia progression and martial arts supremacy.

It is a turn-based RPG about wandering the Jianghu, collecting martial arts techniques, recruiting disciples, cultivating skills, and working toward becoming the leader of the martial world.

The Steam page frames it around classic wuxia choices, with the player able to take over the Ling Jiugong organization, rescue the leader of the Beggar Clan, and shape their path through good, evil, love, and vengeance.

Combat is turn-based, but the broader appeal seems to come from character growth, school rivalries, faction drama, and that familiar martial arts RPG loop of building a hero through training, technique collection, and reputation. It launched on Steam on May 14, 2026, with a 15 percent launch discount during its first ten days.

Down with the Ship (E.A.)

  • Developers: Iron Anchor Games
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 15, 2026
  • Steam Page
Down With The Ship

From martial arts rivalries to starship scrap piles, Down with the Ship brings this week’s list into auto-battler territory.

The Early Access launch version is an asynchronous PvP spaceship builder where players draft equipment, fit it into a hull, and send the final ship into battle against other player-made builds.

The fun seems to sit in the messy buildcraft. Captains, factions, hardware placement, and item synergies all feed into a system where a weird layout can still become a winning machine if the parts click.

The Early Access version adds nine more captains compared with the demo, new trinket mechanics with pre-combat decisions, a revamped tutorial, achievements, unlockable lore, improved matchmaking, balance changes, and quality-of-life updates. Proxy Studios expects the game to stay in Early Access for around one year, with player feedback shaping balance, features, and future content.

A Tale of Silent Depths

  • Developers: Crit42 Studio
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 14, 2026
  • Steam Page
A Tale of Silent Depths

Down with the Ship looked upward into space, but A Tale of Silent Depths takes the opposite route and sends this week’s list into a flooded, post-apocalyptic ocean.

Crit42 Studio’s tactical RPG puts players in command of an Ark, a massive mobile submarine base that works as home, fortress, and survival tool in a world where humanity lives inside steel floating societies.

The ocean is procedurally generated, with ruins, wrecks, trade routes, pirates, sea creatures, rival Arks, and stranger Lovecraftian threats waiting below the surface. Combat uses turn-based tactical battles, with drones acting as the frontline and support units, while the broader loop leans on exploration, scavenging, crafting, resource pressure, and choices that can push the captain toward trade, piracy, archaeology, or something in between. It launched on Steam on May 14, 2026, with an introductory discount available until May 28.

Vultures – Scavengers of Death

  • Developers: Team Vultures
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 13, 2026
  • Steam Page
Vultures - Scavengers of Death

One of my most anticipated RPGs of 2026 was released this week. I’m talking about Vultures – Scavengers of Death, which keeps the survival pressure high but brings it into a ruined metropolis filled with infection, scarcity, and old-school horror tension.

Team Vultures describes it as a tactical turn-based survival horror game inspired by 90s genre classics, with players controlling an operative sent into Salento Valley to recover materials and information tied to a possible cure.

The loop mixes grid-based combat, exploration, scavenging, zombie threats, and extraction-style objectives. That gives it a different flavor from most tactics RPGs, especially with its retro horror mood, limited resources, and post-apocalyptic city setting. It launched on Steam on May 13, 2026, published by Firesquid and Gamersky Games.

Sterile Childhood: Case 17 (Demo)

  • Developers: IterativeBrain
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 16, 2026
  • Steam Page
Sterile Childhood Pc Game

After the infected streets of Vultures, Sterile Childhood: Case 17 keeps the horror thread alive, but turns it inward.

IterativeBrain’s psychological suspense game is set inside a sealed hospital annex where the player wakes with no name, no memory, and one clue left behind in the records. They were once Case 17.

Exploration moves through abandoned wards, archive rooms, and locked medical areas, with torn files, access logs, and clinical reports slowly rebuilding the past. The turn-based side comes through card-driven psychological encounters against distorted figures still tied to the hospital’s old system, where the player has to defend, endure pressure, and manage the balance between Self and Breakdown.

The free demo offers an early look at that mix of hospital exploration, fragmented storytelling, and tense card battles ahead of the full PC release.

Lost Totem Trajipon!

  • Developers: SolPlex Entertainment LLC
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 15, 2026
  • Steam Page
Lost Totem Trajipon!

The horror mood takes a stranger, grimier turn with Lost Totem Trajipon!, a retro creature-collector RPG with an occult streak and a nasty sense of humor.

The game sends players through the desolate land of Trajipon as a Minion Master, capturing more than 60 mutant creatures and using up to three of them in turn-based battles.

The twist is that these Minions are expendable. When one dies, it is gone for good, and players can sacrifice unwanted creatures to keep their best moves, which gives the usual monster-collecting loop a much crueler edge.

Its limited-palette look, 1990s cartridge framing, dark comedy, multiple endings, and supernatural enemy designs make it one of the weirder releases of the week. It launched on Steam on May 15, 2026, alongside a standalone short adventure called Lost Totem Trajipon: Homecoming.

Stellar Freight: Endless Horizon (Closed Beta Test)

  • Developers: Satellite235
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 15, 2026
  • Steam Page
Stellar Freight Roguelite

Stellar Freight: Endless Horizon keeps the sci-fi angle alive, but swaps mechs and fleet-building for something more grounded and dangerous. It is a turn-based roguelite that puts players in command of a cargo ship crossing a collapsing galaxy, where hauling freight is only part of the job.

Each turn represents a new day in space, with contracts, random encounters, distress calls, pirate attacks, abandoned stations, and branching story events forcing the crew to adapt.

Ship management sits at the center of the loop, with upgrades for hulls, weapons, shields, and cargo space, while crew roles affect survival in different ways. Commanders help in battle, Navigators open better routes and opportunities, and Engineers keep the ship alive when things go wrong.

The closed beta playtest began on May 15 through Steam, offering an early look at its resource management, tactical ship combat, crew dynamics, and narrative choices ahead of its planned 2026 launch.

Dungeon of Calibris: Demon Orb

  • Developers: Dalex Software Planning
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release Date: May 15, 2026
  • Steam Page
Dungeon of Calibris RPG

To close the list, Dungeon of Calibris: Demon Orb brings back classic dungeon crawling, with a first-person, grid-based RPG built around party formation, hidden rooms, and turn-based battles.

It is framed as an old-school dungeon crawler with a light story focus, where the main draw is mapping the depths, surviving dangerous encounters, and meeting adventurers, scholars, mercenaries, wanderers, and other misfits scattered through the dungeon.

Dark fantasy, party-based progression, first-person movement, and tactical combat at the center. It launched on Steam on May 15, 2026.
